UF SB: Otis, Rothrock Tabbed SEC Player & Freshman of the Week

Otis, Rothrock Tabbed SEC Player & Freshman of the Week
Junior outfielder Korbe Otis was named SEC Player of the Week for the first time, while freshman Keagan Rothrock was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Week for the second time this season.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two members of the Florida softball program garnered Southeastern Conference weekly awards this week as Korbe Otis was selected as SEC Player of the Week and Keagan Rothrock was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Otis was a constant force at the plate this past week for the Gators at the Judi Garman Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. The junior outfielder was 9-for-11 (.818) at the plate and started the classic going 5-for-5 in the first two games with a pair of walks, five runs scored and two RBI against host Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State.

The Littleton, Co., native ended the week on a season-long six-game hit streak and her three runs scored against Long Beach State and DePaul tied her season-high in the category.

Freshman right-hander Keagan Rothrock also shined in her two outings at the Judi Garman Classic. The Whiteland, Ind., native secured her first Top 25 victory of her career with a 1-0, two-hit, complete-game shutout of No. 18 UCLA in addition to recording the second complete-game no-hitter of her career against Cal State Fullerton.

Rothrock extended her scoreless inning streak to 29 2/3 innings, which is the longest scoreless inning streak held by a UF pitcher since Kelly Barnhill tallied a 37-inning scoreless streak back during the 2018 season.

The SEC Player of the Week award is the first of Otis’ career and the second for the program this season as sophomore catcher Jocelyn Erickson received the award earlier this season.

This is Rothrock’s second SEC Freshman of the Week honor and it’s the fourth consecutive SEC Freshman of the Week for the Florida program as fellow freshmen pitchers Ava Brown and Olivia Miller have both earned the award.

It’s the first time since 2015 that the program has received SEC Freshman of the Week four times in the same season and only the third overall time in program history.
