American Athletic Conference Announces Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, February March 3.

Player of the Week

Temira Poindexter, Jr., F, Tulsa

Poindexter help keep the Golden Hurricane in the running for a regular season title, leading Tulsa to wins over Temple and SMU. She scored 30 points and had nine rebounds in the win over Temple, while adding 22 points and another nine rebounds in the win over SMU.

Freshman of the Week

Salese Blow, Fr., G, Wichita State

Blow had a career-week, averaging 21 points in games against SMU and UTSA.  She scored 24 points against the Mustangs, which included a half-court buzzer beater to send the game into overtime. She added 18 points against UTSA.

Weekly Honor Roll

Madison Griggs, 5th, G, Memphis

Griggs led the Tigers to a pair of wins over UTSA and UAB, averaging 17 points. She scored 21 points in the win over UAB.

DesiRay Kernal, Gr., F, North Texas

Kernal kept the Mean Green in contention for a regular season title, averaging 22 points and 14.5 rebounds. She had 22 points and 19 rebounds in the four-overtime win over East Carolina.

Romi Levy, R-Jr., F, South Florida

Levy scored 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting, which included the game-winning shot in the win against Tulane.

Tiara Young, Gr., G, SMU

Young averaged 23.5 points in two games, including scoring 25 points and dishing out three assists in the win over Wichita State.

Tiarra East, Jr., G, Temple

East scored 28 points and came down with 13 rebounds in Temple’s win over East Carolina to keep the Owls tied for first place in The American.
