UAB Softball Earns C-USA Academic Excellence Award

DALLAS – The UAB softball team has earned the Conference USA Academic Excellence Award for the 2019-20 season.

The C-USA sport academic awards are given to those programs with the highest team GPA in their respective sports.

“I am extremely proud of our softball team for having the highest GPA in C-USA,” said head coach Joe Guthrie. “They put in a ton of effort in the classroom this year. Excelling academically is our top priority as a team. The girls have set a high bar, but we plan to exceed it this coming year.”

The Blazers finished the semester with a GPA of 3.76, the highest program GPA since the 2015-16 academic year. Seventeen softball student-athletes made the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. Sam Bean, Sierra Frazier, Jenna Olszewski, Analyse Petree and Amy Woodham each earned C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medals, awarded to student-athletes with a GPA of 3.75 or higher.

Bean, a freshman from Rockwall, Texas, recorded the highest GPA on the squad with a 3.90 in exercise science.
