UF Women’s Swim and Dive | Six Gators Collect SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll Status

UF has now earned 33 conference academic accolades for the 2019-20 season.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Six University of Florida women’s swimmers and divers were named to the Southeastern Conference First-Year Academic Honor Roll on Tuesday afternoon by the SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey.

Talia Bates, Kathleen Golding, Ria Malhotra, Ashley McCool, Allie Piccirillo and Liz Watts received recognition for their academic success achieved during their first year in Gainesville.

Florida now has received 33 SEC academic honors this season after a trio of record-setting performances in the classroom throughout the 2019-20 school year. As a whole, the team recorded a 3.80 accumulative GPA, placed 27 swimmers and divers on the Winter Academic Honor Roll and led all Division I teams with 24 College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American honorees.

In the pool, Florida recorded a second-place finish for the second straight season the SEC Championships, tallying seven medals and registering 10 top-10 program swims and 28 personal-bests at the 2020 conference meet. During the regular season, the team posted the best dual meet record (8-1) since 2007-08, including starting off the season by winning their first eight duals.

To be recognized for the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must meet the following criteria: 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.
