BIRMINGHAM– The UAB men’s soccer team will host Old Dominion to open Conference USA play at BBVA Field on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
“Conference matches always take on a different level of emotion than non-conference games,” said head coach Jeff Kinney. “Old dominion is off to a good start this year and we will be tested throughout the match. We are hoping to build on our last result as we kick off conference play at home.”
ABOUT UAB
The Blazers (2-7-0) have found a great rhythm lately and defense has been the key. In a physical matchup last game, UAB defeated Mercer 1-0. The Blazers accumulated 12 shots with five on goal to the Bears eight shots with one on goal. Nine of the 12 shots came in the second half of the match.
ABOUT OLD DOMINION
After a handful of postponed games, the Monarchs (1-0-0) started their spring season with a 1-0 win against George Mason on Feb. 28.
THE SERIES VS. OLD DOMINION
The teams have met seven times with Old Dominion winning five and two matches resulting in a tie. In the last matchup in Norfolk in 2019, the game ended in a 1-1 tie after two overtimes.

UAB will travel to North Carolina for another Conference USA match against Charlotte on March 13.
BBVA Field will accommodate fans with social distancing measures in place.
Fans will be asked to practice social distancing and sit in available seats. Masks are required at all times per state and county ordinance.
