U.S. National Under-17 Team Defeats the Czech Republic, 10-1

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. – The U.S. National Under-17 Team defeated the Czech Republic, 10-1, in its first preliminary game at the 2019 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.The Czech Republic got off to a quick start taking a 1-0 lead at the 35-second mark.Chaz Lucius (Grant, Minn.) netted his 16th goal of the year at the 4:27 mark of the first period to tie the game, 1-1. Dylan Duke (Strongsville, Ohio) sent the puck from the goal line to Lucius in the slot, who one-timed it in on the power play.The second period was all Team USA as the Under-17 Team netted seven goals.Ty Gallagher (Clarkston, Mich.) sent two into the back of the net while Tyler Boucher(Haddonfield, N.J.), Liam Gilmartin (Falls Church, Va.), Jack Hughes (Westwood, Mass.), Sean Behrens (Barrington, Ill.) and Duke each had one in the middle frame.Lucius netted his second of the game at the 3:42 mark of the third period to give the U.S. a 9-1 lead.Ryan St. Louis (Riverside, Conn.) sent one between the legs of the Czech Republic’s Tomas Suchanek on a short-handed breakaway to seal the game, 10-1.“Our identity shone through today,” said head coach John Wroblewski after the win. “It was a good struggle in the first period. They had some good pressure and we were up to the task and we broke it open in the second. Internationally you’re going get every team’s best game and you’ve got to embrace that grind and take a game over when you can.”The U.S. continues play tomorrow, Monday (Nov. 4) against Canada White at 7 p.m. MT/9 p.m. ET. 2019 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge
