Snita Named SSC Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Kicking off her Nova Southeastern tennis career with an eye-opening 6-0 week, sophomore Karolina Snita has earned the title of Sunshine State Conference Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

The transfer from Louisiana Monroe out of the Division I Sun Belt Conference, Snita earned a 3-0 record in both singles and doubles for the Sharks, while only dropping a single set in three matches.

Facing tough opposition in her debut against No. 13 Flagler at No. 2 singles, the Glogow, Poland native battled back from a 5-1 deficit in a first-set tiebreaker, charging forward to defeat Lixin Wang, 7-5 in the first set, then rally from a second-set loss to claim the third, 6-1 – wrapping up a singles match that lasted nearly two-and-a-half hours.

Snita then delivered commanding wins on the road, topping Georgia College’s Kim Yatribi (6-1, 6-0) and closing out the weekend with (6-1, 6-2) victories over Valdosta State’s Birte Langestein.

In doubles with Diane Follin-Arbelet, Snita played in all three flights this week. The pair finished first in a 6-2 win over Flagler, 6-3 top-flight win over Georgia College, and closed out with a shutout, 6-0 at in the second flight versus VSU.

With the Sharks at 3-0 as well, NSU returns to the NSU Tennis Complex at Rolling Hills on Saturday, Feb. 15, kicking off Sunshine State Conference Play as host to Tampa.
