Sunahara Earns First Career SSC Player of the Week Award

MELBOURNE, Fla. – For the first time in his young career, Nova Southeastern redshirt freshman RJ Sunahara has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

This past week, Sunahara averaged a double-double over the course of two victories, as the fifth-ranked Sharks ran their win streak to a season-high eight games after beating both Rollins and Eckerd on the road. The Bay Village, Ohio native recorded 22.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in the two efforts while shooting an impressive 76.9% from the field. Sunahara tallied a game-high 25 points on 12-of-15 shooting in Wednesday’s victory at Rollins, helping NSU avenge its previous loss this season to the Tars. He then followed up the performance by registering a 20-point, 14-rebound double-double, his fifth on the year, to lead the Sharks past Eckerd.

Sunahara currently ranks among the Top-5 in the league in field goal percentage (64.4%) and blocks (1.5 bpg).

Sunahara and the Sharks will look to continue their winning ways this Wednesday when they welcome Lynn to the Rick Case Arena. For complete coverage of the action, visit the schedule page on NSUSharks.com or follow the Sharks on Twitter @NSU_MBasketball.
