OWLS IN REVIEW

The Owls fell behind 3-0 in the first inning on Tuesday night against No. 15 FGCU but rallied back to earn a 5-4 victory. The win was number 500 in the career FAU head coach John McCormack.
Last weekend in C-USA play, the Owls took two of three from FIU. Now FAU returns to their friendly confines where they’ve won 12 of the last 13 home games.

WHO’S HOT

Nolan Schanuel contributed an RBI single on Tuesday to extend his reached-base streak to 29 games. Schanuel is second in Division I with a .611 on base percentage. Schanuel is also second in the country in batting average (.474). He’s first in slugging percentage (.939).

Armando Albert reached base four times on Tuesday including a two-RBI single in the second inning. Albert has four hits, four runs scored, and three doubles in the last two games.

Robert Wegielnik earned a four-out save on Tuesday. Entering with two outs in the eighth inning, Wegielnik struck out the first three hitters he faced before inducing a game-ending popout in the ninth. He’s held opponents scoreless in each of his last six appearances.

THE OPPONENT

Dallas Baptist is a new member of Conference USA after previously competing in the Missouri Valley Conference. Baseball is the school’s only Division I sport as the rest of the Patriot programs compete in the Lone Star Conference in Division II. DBU baseball has been to eight consecutive NCAA Regionals dating back to 2014. The Patriots enter this weekend on a seven-game winning streak. DBU defeated Baylor 6-5 on Tuesday.

OPPONENT HISTORY

FAU and Dallas Baptist have never met in any sport. Among common opponents this season, DBU won two of three versus FIU. Elsewhere in Conference USA, the Patriots took two of three from both Charlotte and Louisiana Tech and swept UAB.

UPCOMING

The Owls will remain home for the third game in the season series with Miami next Wednesday. A trip to Bowling Green, Ky. to face WKU is on the schedule for next weekend.
