Hartigan of FAU Baseball Earns C-USA Weekly Honor

BOCA RATON, Fla. – (Feb. 24, 2020) – Hitting .500 while helping to lead the Florida Atlantic University baseball team to a 4-0 week earned sophomore Mitchell Hartigan Conference USA Co-Hitter of the Week honors in the league’s announcement on Monday.

Hartigan was on base at least twice in every Owls’ game this week, all four FAU victories to push the team to 7-0 on the year. He hit a blistering .500 (7-for-14) with four extra bases hits – three doubles and a triple – got on base at a clip of .579, and slugged .857. The sophomore knocked in five and scored six runs.

Against FGCU on Tuesday, he had two doubles, knocked in a run, and came in to close out the ninth with his first collegiate save. In Friday’s opener against Binghamton, he hit a walkoff sacrifice fly to complete a 9-8 comeback win (the Owls were down 8-2 entering the eighth). In total in that game, he was 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, two runs scored and two RBI. In the Sunday doubleheader sweep, he began the day by going 2-for-4 with a walk, scored two runs and knocked in a run; in the nightcap, was 1-for-3 with a double, walked twice, scored twice and posted another RBI. To cap it off, he pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to seal the win.

The Jupiter, Florida native has reached base in all seven games this year and has five multi-hit affairs, with a ridiculous season OPS to this point of 1.420.The Owls are back in action this upcoming weekend in Tallahassee when they face both Texas Tech and Florida State at Dick Howser Stadium.
