GAM Tournament Registration is OPEN

FARMINGTON HILLS – Registration for GAM tournaments and Golf Days is open at GAM.org.

The schedule includes 30 championships, including the 111th Michigan Amateur Championship and the 106th Michigan Women’s Amateur Championship, the 101st GAM Championship and the 31st GAM Women’s Championship, but also age-group state championships and tournaments with special age-group divisions for junior boys and girls, senior men and women, and multiple net scoring championships for the non-elite competitive golfer.

In addition, select GAM Golf Days are open for registration, too. The popular events give members event access to top private and public courses across the state at affordable prices.

New sites are hosting championships this year, including Sugar Springs Golf Club in Gladwin, Petoskey-Bay View Country Club, Apple Mountain Golf Club in Freeland, and the Sundance course at A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort in Kewadin.

Ken Hartmann, senior director of competitions and USGA services for the GAM, said there is always an effort to add new host sites to the schedule for championships and Golf Days.

“We are always looking for new places,” he said. “We don’t want to wear out our welcome at the places we go often, and we want to reach people who might play if a tournament is closer to their home. We also want our members to see what the state has to offer in golf, bring some business to member clubs and give them a chance to showcase what they provide.”

Hartmann said GAM member clubs who have an interest in hosting a tournament can reach out to the GAM staff.

“They are welcome to reach out and we will have a staff person come and visit,” he said. “We would like it if more clubs and courses had the opportunity to be involved in our tournament structure.”

New in 2022, select championships and GAM Golf Days will open registration later in the season to ensure players that renew their GAM Memberships later have an opportunity to register for a few of the more popular events. Keep watch at GAM.org for details on those later dates.

The tournament schedule kicks off on April 23-24 with the 4th GAM Junior Kickoff being presented at Washtenaw Golf Club in Ypsilanti and continues through to the GAM Tournament of Champions and Senior Tournament of Champions on Oct. 3 at Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club.

Golf Days, where any and all GAM members can play top private courses for a negotiated rate as low as $60, start on April 25 at TPC of Michigan in Dearborn and continue through to the Golf Day on Oct. 10 at Plum Hollow Country Club in Southfield.

Elite players will note the 111th Michigan Amateur is being hosted by Hawk Hollow Golf Club near East Lansing June 27-July 1, and the 106th Michigan Women’s Amateur is being hosted by Great Oaks Country Club in Rochester June 13-17.

The 101st GAM Championship is slated for Aug. 8-9 at Plum Hollow Country Club, and the 31st GAM Women’s Championship is on those same dates at Country Club of Lansing.

The popular GAM Senior/Mid-Am Team Championship will be presented at three sites on May 16 and May 23 – Flint Golf Club, Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor and Dearborn Country Club.

Planning continues for the annual GAM Scramble Championship, and the second Two-Person Scramble.

Hartmann said golf clubs and courses continued to have increased play in 2021, and that GAM tournaments often had sell-outs and waiting lists.

“We’re wondering if that boom continues or if it will level off,” he said. “We would love to see it continue, as would the golf courses. It will be interesting to see if some of the new golfers we saw the last two years keep coming back.”
