UAB WBB Begins Texas Roadtrip with Rice on Thursday

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women’s basketball team returns to Texas for the next two games beginning Feb. 17 with Rice. Tipoff time at Tudor Fieldhouse is 7 p.m.

UAB LATELY
Despite shooting a season-best 55.8% UAB (13-9, 6-5 C-USA) came up short 81-75 to Old Dominion on Feb. 13.

RICE LATELY
Rice (7-11, 2-8 C-USA) is coming off a pair of loses to North Texas. On Feb. 10, they fell to the Mean Green 57-50 in Denton and on Feb. 13 the Owls suffered a 55-42 setback in Houston. 

UAB AND RICE HISTORY   
The teams first met in 2006 and have met every year with the exception of 2021 due to COVID-19.  Rice holds a 10-8 edge in the all-time series and 4-3 at Tudor Fieldhouse. The Blazers have won both matchups in the C-USA Championship (2012, 2018).

LAST TIME AGAINST RICE
Miyah Barnes tied a career-high with 25 points, but Rice came away with a 74-65 victory on Feb. 22, 2020 at Bartow Arena.

UAB and Rice have 10 common opponents this season.

UAB is 61-51 all-time against teams from the state of Texas.

TOP OF THE CHARTS         
Weathersby is seventh in the NCAA with 16 double-doubles, 13th with 4.1 offensive rebounds per game and 16th with 11.0 rebounds per game.  She ranks first in Conference USA shooting percentage (56.0%) and total rebounds/rebounds per game (243/11.0) She’s second in the league in blocks per game and total blocks (1.82/40) and is fifth in field goals made (130).

GREAT 28     
Both Weathersby (Chicago State/Chattanooga) and Caitlynn Daniels (Mississippi Valley State) each have a 28-point game under their belts this year.

WORLD CLASS KLACZEK
Emily Klaczek set a career-high with 26 points in UAB’s 86-70 win over WKU on Jan. 27. She scored 16 points in the 2nd quarter, going 5-for-5 from the field, 4-of-4 from 3-point range and a pair of foul shots.

EIGHT IS ENOUGH  
In Daniels career day against MVSU, she drained eight 3-pointers. This is the most in C-USA this season and tied for the 10th most in the NCAA this season.

SCHEDULE UPDATE
Conference USA has rescheduled the basketball contest between UAB and Rice for Feb. 22 with a 5 p.m. tipoff.
