FIU Football News: Jets Take Morgan in Fourth Round of NFL Draft

MIAMI (April 25, 2020) – FIU’s James Morgan was selected by the New York Jets in the fourth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday, as the former Panther quarterback was picked 125th overall.

With the selection on Saturday, Morgan becomes the highest-drafted quarterback in program history. Morgan joins Alex McGough, who was picked in the seventh round of 2018’s NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks, as the only Panther quarterbacks to be selected in FIU history. Overall, Morgan is FIU’s fourth-highest NFL Draft pick.

While at FIU, Morgan led the Panthers to back-to-back bowl games and threw for 40 touchdowns in only two seasons to rank third all-time in program history. Morgan racked up over 5,000 career passing yards at FIU as well to rank third, while his 143.4 passer rating with the Panthers set a new school record.

Coming to the 305 in 2018, Morgan took FIU and the Conference USA by storm as he broke the school’s single-season passing touchdown record and was named Newcomer of the Year by the league. Transferring to FIU after starting his collegiate career at Bowling Green, Morgan became just the third player in program history to earn an end-of-year conference award, joining T.Y. Hilton (2010 & 2008) and Keyonvis Bouie (2006).
