FIU Football News: Panthers Take Oliver-Thomas in Seventh Round of NFL Draft

MIAMI (April 25, 2020) – FIU’s Stantley Thomas-Oliver III was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round of the NFL Draft on Saturday, as the former Panther defensive back was picked 221st overall.

With the selection, Thomas-Oliver becomes the 10th Panther selected in the NFL Draft since 2007. James Morgan was drafted earlier in the day to the New York Jets in the fourth round, marking the third year the Panthers have had multiple players selected in the same NFL Draft. FIU had two players selected in 2007 and 2013 prior to the 2020 year.

Thomas-Oliver impressed many NFL scouts following his collegiate career, earning invites to the East-West Shrine Game, Tropical Bowl and Hula Bowl. The corner earned back-to-back All-Conference USA honors as a defensive back, while also earning conference laurels as a wide receiver in his first year at FIU. Thomas-Oliver led FIU to three-straight bowl games and had one of his biggest interceptions come in the 30-24 win over the Miami Hurricanes last season.
