DENVER BRONCOS vs. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS Empower Field at Mile High ● Sept. 29, 2019

HEAD COACH VIC FANGIO
On Jacksonville RB Leonard Fournette and the running game“They were just—I’d just have to see the tape obviously, but they were pushing us around and he’s a big back and he broke tackles and moved the pile and we got whipped.”
On if he saw similarities in the final drive that reminded him of what happened against Chicago“Yeah, it was eerily similar starting off with the roughing the passer penalty and now they’re out to 40 and one play away from getting in field goal range with still—there was a lot more time than there was in that other game. We had a hard time with the quarterback. The whole personality of the game changed when we couldn’t get that quarterback tackled when we had guys around him in the pocket in a couple critical third downs.”
On QB Joe Flacco’s interception at the end of the first half leading to a Jacksonville field goal“Instead of three more points for us at the minimum, it’s three more for them in a two-score game, pretty obvious.”
On what the message is from him to the locker room“I still believe in them. I think they’re winners as individuals. We have to find a way to be winners as a team and we’re not playing well enough consistently enough to do that, but I do believe in these guys. You said there was some good things defensively there. There was for a half. In the second half, you’re going to have to look long and hard to find it. We just got whipped there. I can’t ever remember being in a game like that where they might have had 300 yards rushing. I don’t know.”
On the challenges that the team is presented with when the Jaguars had 40 minutes of possession “It changes the whole complex of the game. Our offense probably only had the ball three times in the second half. When we allow them to eat up 10 minutes of the third quarter, the whole game changes. If we could have answered their initial drive in the first half with some points and some first downs maybe the game’s different. When you’re getting whipped like that it’s hard to win.”
On if the Jacksonville defense threw any curveballs“I don’t think so. They’re a good defense. They’ve been a good defense for the last three years at least. They have a lot of good players and occasionally they’re going to stop you.”
On how hard it is to stay positive in his approach as a head coach“It’s not. It’s more—I’m sure it’s harder for the players to believe in it because this is a bottom-line business and our bottom line isn’t’ very good right now. We’re going to keep trudging forward. We’re going to keep coaching these guys, trying to correct our mistakes, try and get better and that’s what we’re going to do.”
On what was going on with OLB Bradley Chubb and injuries that occurred during the game“He had some calf issues and then I think he had another injury in his leg issue that he was able to come back from. [ILB] Josey [Jewell] didn’t come back. His hamstring acted up again. Then there was a couple of other guys that were in and out.”
On if there was any talk about using more game clock on the final drive“In retrospect it can be, but when you’re down six, job one is to score. In hindsight it could be, but when you’re down six you have to score and when you score the defense has got to go back it up.”
On if he got an explanation for the roughing the passer on OLB Von Miller“No.” On how he coaches players when the line is thin on roughing the passer“I don’t know. It’s hard. I don’t know. We just explain to them the rules. We try and do a good job of that. We try and do a good job of that. I think that was our only penalty on the day defensively. We do make it an emphasis. The last one that happened a few weeks ago was admitted to be a poor call. I didn’t get a great look at this one. I have to get focused and get to the next play. I haven’t seen a replay of it.”
On how crazy it makes him to not have a good tackling day“Very. I’m sure when I—it’s my guess that when we look at this, guys got frustrated with allowing them to run the ball as our tackling suffered. I’m sure our technique suffered then. Guys start fudging sometimes to try and make a play and it becomes an avalanche. He’s a really good big back. He took it to us, and their line did too.”
On what he thinks of Jacksonville QB Gardner Minshew II“I’ve been impressed with him. I was impressed with him watching him all week and we were doing a good job on him early, playing the way we had practiced to play. The coverages we were using we were doing good with, but then when we couldn’t get him down in those critical third down plays it kind of changed the game.”

BRONCOS QUARTERBACK JOE FLACCO
On whether the interception was a miscommunication between he and WR Emmanuel Sanders“It was my fault, my eyes messed with me. I look at the pick obviously as a difference. [WR] Courtland [Sutton] kind of got covered and I looked back to throw what I thought was my shallow cross and Emmanuel wasn’t in my visions yet. All of the sudden, Emmanuel came into my vision as I was getting ready to throw what I thought was my shallow cross and it just completely interrupted what I thought. I didn’t have any idea who he was at that point, he was just really in my line of sight. I tried pulling back the ball yet again and it just floated out high to the guy that was kind of coming down and lurking the safety.”
On how he can keep the morale up in the locker room after an 0-4 start“It’s tough. Guys obviously are not feeling as good as we should right now. It’s a tough thing. In these moments, you can tell from the locker room, there’s probably going to have to be something said to this team just because we got 12 football games left. The NFL doesn’t wait around for anybody. Before you know it, we’re going to be playing again, we’re going to be lining up next Sunday. There’s no time to feel sorry for yourself or anything like that. We’re a bunch of men and you have to handle these situations as such. There’s really nothing you can do about it. You can’t go back in time and fix this thing and fix that thing. It is what it is. You have to look at yourself in the mirror and you have to be able to push it down and deal with it and move on and still play good football. I think as an older guy my perspective is a little different. There’s a lot of people in my life that look up to me and these are experiences that you can teach them. It’s tough to look at that, it’s tough to get in front of a team and tell them that when everybody is hurting as much as they are, but that’s the bottom line. If you consider yourself a tough NFL football player, well then damn, look at yourself in them mirror, pick yourself up and get ready to go back to work.”
On whether the second half felt similar to the first half against Oakland as far as being hard to get back into rhythm“Yeah, obviously, we didn’t get very many possessions, that was partly due to us to us and partly due to their run game. It seemed like on every drive we made a mistake here or a mistake there. We know what those mistakes are and they hurt us. Even if at some point we just get a field goal within those first couple of drives, it makes a difference. That obviously was a bad job on our part trying to take advantage of the little bit of time we had the ball.”
On whether they talked about letting the clock run down more during their last offensive drive“No. It’s tough, it really is. If you have to kick a field goal, obviously you can get to that point. With my experience—and I think when you watch NFL games, you’re exactly right. How many times are you sitting at home on your couch, you watch a team score with a 1:30 left and you know—your sitting there and if it’s your team you know, ‘Oh my gosh, we left too much time on the clock.’ But when you have to score a touchdown, it’s that fine line. You have to take your opportunity when you get it because you never know. In this league and the way defenses are, the way pass rushers are and things like that, if you try to just eat the clock up and do things like that and then score with 20 seconds left, you don’t know if you’re even going to score. It’s definitely a fine line. I hear what you’re saying, it makes a lot of sense. It’s just one of those things that when you’re in the moment it’s not as easy to do as you want it to be.”
On whether this young team have things to learn in order to close a game with a win“There definitely is, there’s a lot to that. I think that’s why when I look at my offensive guys in the face after the game there’s a lot of positive things to say about them. It’s tough to go out there and not play the way you want to in the second half and be down six points and go out there in your last drive and execute the way we did. At that point, it feels like you’re down 20, it doesn’t really feel like you have quite the same opportunity that in reality you do. I think we did a good job in that sense. It’s just one of those things, we are young and we haven’t had some things go our way. We’ve got another roughing the passer call and obviously the yards helped them there, but more so I think they would have been third-and-10—or somewhere around that—and the stadium was rocking at that point. Those things are honestly out of our control. I think our defense was playing hard and doing the right things and that’s what happens sometimes, unfortunately.”
On what his mindset was when the defense took the field after the offense scored“You want to be excited, but at that point you’re a fan. You’re sitting on the couch and you’re a fan and you’re somewhat nervous about how it might go. Winning a football game in the NFL, there are not too many things that are greater than doing that in life. For you guys that don’t know it, it is an unbelievable feeling. You know how precious they are and you know how tough they are to get. You don’t celebrate fully—obviously you’re excited because we went down there and did our job, but you don’t celebrate until that clock hits zero and you won the game. I had confidence in the [defense] and like I said, there’s some other thing that I’ve talked about. Some other things can’t, some other thing you can and we’ve just got to get better at it.”

BRONCOS OUTSIDE LINEBACKER BRADLEY CHUBB
On the Jaguars’ final drive“We didn’t come up big like we should have. Another roughing the passer call. More of the same stuff. We just need to lock in and eliminate the penalties and eliminate the mistakes we are making as a defense. Just come back ready to work.”
On Jaguars offense going to the run in the second half“We knew after the first half, we had the lead and we were getting sacks. We knew they were going to go to the running game and we just didn’t execute like we should have.”
On trying to stay together as a team“There’s frustrations from everyone but that’s when people like me, people like the leaders we have on this team, that’s when we step in and say the things that need to be said. We bring guys along with us. We do all the things necessary to stay together and I feel like if we continue to do that, everyone will be on the same page and hopefully it will turn around for us.”
On what things he says need to be said“Just those mistakes. Everyone sees the mistakes. We just have to clean them up and there can’t be anymore get it next time. Everyone has to be the same person in practice as they are in the game. We have great practices. We just get into the games and sometimes it gets away from us. Stay together, bring everyone together, keep everyone together and we’ll be good.”
On the pass rush being more effective today“We went up 14-3. When a team is down, they try to pass the ball and try to get those yards back and we executed at that moment. We knew when the second half started that they were going to run the ball and we just didn’t execute as well as we could.”
On how he feels after being on-and-off the field in the fourth quarter“Just cramps. Feeling good now but need to shake that off. Hydrate more and can’t let my team down not being on the field.”

BRONCOS CORNERBACK CHRIS HARRIS JR.
On dealing with multiple tough losses“It’s just a tough loss. We’ve got to just keep it moving. We’ve got the Chargers next week, a rivalry game, and we’ve got to just keep it rolling.”
On having the game in their hands and losing in the last possession“We’ve got to figure out how to close it. We haven’t been the closers that we’ve been in the past. We’ve got to just figure out how to close as a team.”
On what he says to the team as a leader“We’ve just got to keep working, keep playing and keep believing in [Head Coach Vic] Fangio.”
On the difference between the two halves“They just got a lot of momentum when we gave them three points at the end. I think that came back to haunt us at the end, so kudos to them for getting a key turnover before halftime.”
On Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette’s performance“He had a great day against us. He’s a great running back. We’ve definitely got to stop the run better than that, but he’s a great running back and he showed what he can do breaking those tackles and showing his vision.”

BRONCOS RUNNING BACK PHILLIP LINDSAY
On what needs to change“We have to execute. We can’t leave the defense. When the defense gets a stop, we have to go out there and produce. It is a mindset. Every game we get better but we have to get over that hump and find a way to win. “
On the message in the locker room“To keep fighting. We are there. These games are all winnable. It is not like we are sitting here getting dominated. They are there. We just have to finish it. It reminds me of college a little bit when I was at CU. We were building and stuff like that and finally you get over the hump and start finishing games. Once you get that first win, you can start rolling. It’s like once you get that first touchdown you get rolling and it starts coming. We have to find a way to win.”
On the positives from the loss“The fact is on defense we are finally getting sacks and stuff like that. On offense we are moving the ball and are scoring. We just have to find ways to win the game.”
On watching the final drive from the sideline“It is very tough. We are a whole team. Those are you brothers out there. You want them to do well and want to cheer them on. You wish you could be out there. Everybody has a job to do and everybody needs to do their job.”
On keeping the locker room together“You just got to grind. It’s a grind. You just keep pushing. Life is not fair. In life you have ups and downs. At the hardest times you can sit there and cry and whine and feel sorry for yourself, or you can keep moving forward. You have to weather the storm. After a while things even out and everything turns out okay. That is the way I go through life and that is how I will continue to go through life.”
On rebuilding a winning mindset“We just have to get over the hump. We have to find a couple more plays to win the game. That is it. On offense it means staying on the field longer and finding that extra inch to stay on the field. The coaches can only do so much. We are the ones out there playing so we have to come up with ways to make plays.”

BRONCOS OUTSIDE LINEBACKER VON MILLER
On his takeaways from the game“[The] offense did enough for us to win. Defense, we’ve got to find a way to close the game out. That’s the second time this season that that’s happened to us. There’s really no time for us to feel sorry for ourselves. I’m going to take a long, hard look in the mirror—which I always do—and do it again. That’s the answer to all our problems. I was able to get on the board with sacks, but everybody knows the win column is the most important stat for us. It was a tough one. It’s a tough patch for us. Like I said, there’s no time for us to really feel sorry for ourselves. We’ve got to keep working.”
On their inability to slow Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette in the third quarter“Yeah, I don’t know. Fournette is a good back. We just got beat. We couldn’t stop the run. We couldn’t stop the run, we couldn’t tackle the quarterback and that creates a hard game to win. Tough day for us.”
On if the team has a confidence issue when it comes to closing out games“I don’t know if it’s a confidence issue. I’m positive it’s not a confidence issue. We’ve just got to find a way to get it done. We think if you play the same game four times, you’ve got to get lucky and win one of them. We just haven’t been able to get in the win column yet. But there’s really no time to feel sorry for ourselves. We’ve got 12 games left, it’s still early in the season. The first month of the season has just passed for us. We’ve got a lot of ball to play. Like I said, we’ve got to get in the mirror and take a long, hard look. Which I always do, but I’ve got to do it again.”
On if he agreed with the roughing the passer penalty on the final drive“I don’t know, I haven’t seen it. The refs have got a hard job. We’ve got a hard job. It’s just tough. It was a tough day, but we can’t really blame the refs. They do their best to call the game fair and make it fair for both teams. There’re probably some calls on both sides of the ball that people can probably question. It was just a rough one.”
On how he keeps the locker room together at this juncture“We’ve got a great group of guys. We’ve got great coaches, some of the best coaches that I’ve had my entire career. We’ve got a lot of talent on both sides of the ball, we’ve just got to—I know it sounds cliché, but you’ve just got to stick together and really come closer. At the end of the day, you play professional football. It’s the pros. There’s no room for people that want to go out halfway through it or quit or have second thoughts or anything like that. We’re in it. We’ve got Week 5 coming up. There’s no way out. The only way out is up.”
On if he’ll take it upon himself to address the team“I talk to the guys all the time. I feel like the team, they feel my vibes all the time. They feel my presence all the time. Whatever needs to be done, we’ve got a day off to really think about how we’re going to move forward. Whatever needs to be done, we’ll address it on Tuesday. Like I said, there’s no need to feel sorry for ourselves and start second guessing anything like that. We’re four games in. We’ve still got a long way to go.”
On if he feels the team let up when it had a 17-3 lead“We didn’t let our foot off the pedal. It’s the pros. A play here, play there, they chained together a couple plays, and we’ve got to rally and we’ve got to come back. It’s just like boxing. We won the first couple of rounds and they had a good couple of rounds too. Now, it’s the end of the fight and we’ve got to find a way to come out on top. It was a tough day.”

BRONCOS WIDE RECEIVER EMMANUEL SANDERS
On what changed offensively in the second half“We had two three and outs, their offense had the ball for 10 minutes. I remember sitting on the sideline and saying, ‘We can’t keep going three and out, our defense is going to be tired.’ And we came out and had another three and out, we just can’t do that.”
On how this loss feels different than the last three“The message is obviously positivity. I’m a competitor, I hate losing. But I’m trying to find a silver lining and just remain positive, keep fighting with my teammates. We’re not going to point any fingers. I had two plays that I probably could’ve done better. I had two go balls where I probably could’ve beaten the guy and changed the game. I think the worst thing we can do is say, ‘The defense isn’t playing well or the offense isn’t playing well.’ Wverybody has to look at themselves and say, ‘What can we do better? How can I help my team be better?’ That’s what I’m doing.”
On how the interception before halftime changed the momentum of the game“Obviously you don’t want to do that, especially when we have an opportunity to get some points. But there’s a lot of plays throughout the game that can change the dynamic of the game, so like I said, we’re not going to point at one play. It’s the ultimate team sport and obviously as a team right now we’re not playing well.”

BRONCOS SAFETY JUSTIN SIMMONS
On starting the season 0-4“This is year four for me, 9-7 my first year and then every year after that it’s been losing. A lot of high expectations that we had and the season’s not over, but 0-4 is not the way anyone envisioned this. You go out there, regardless of what people think, you put your heart and soul into each week and to come up short and to play how we played defensively in the second half, emotions fly everywhere and that’s why it stings.”
On making sure the team doesn’t splinter“I don’t even know if I know the answer. Obviously, we haven’t been 0-4 since I’ve been here. I do know we have a great staff. We have great leadership, just great guys. I know we’ll figure it out. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy. There’ll be hardships, a lot of looking in the mirror and we’re not winning. In this league, the only thing that matters is a win so that’s what we have to focus on.”
On the importance of staying together“It’s important, family’s fight. I think that’s first and foremost, family’s fight. Like I said, when you pour your heart and soul into it every week and you come up short every week, emotions get the best of you at times, so guys have to know where each others’ hearts are at. Things will be said and things will be done, but at the heart of it is just frustration towards losing. We all have to take a hard look in the mirror. This is not a one finger operation in terms of it’s the offense’s fault, it’s the defense’s fault, special teams, it’s this person, it’s that person. This is a unit. It’s a team game. All of us could have played better, especially defensively. Like I said, family’s fight but we just have to work through it. We can’t let this affect us because this is not Week 17, this is still really early. We still have a lot of time to get wins and turn this thing around.”
On what went wrong in the third quarter“We didn’t tackle. A lot of times we were at the point of attack and we knew going in he was a tough guy to bring down, you have to swarm, and we didn’t tackle well at all. We have to do a better job of that.”

BRONCOS WIDE RECEIVER COURTLAND SUTTON
On the momentum turning in the second half“This is a game of momentums. You never know when you’re losing when you will get it. When you have it you have to keep it. I don’t know what was the thing that caused us to lose the momentum, but we just have to get back to the drawing board.”
On the emotions of the last two minutes“I feel like we do a really good job of coming in and facing adversity, moving the ball and doing the things we are supposed to do. Unfortunately, at the end of the game we fell a little short.”
On the message going into next week“Just get back to work, study a little bit harder, practice a little bit harder, recover a little bit harder and focus a little bit harder. That’s really it. You have to reevaluate everyone as an individual and the team has to reevaluate how we go about getting ready for the games. It will eventually happen, I think it’s really going to be a really big week for us as a team to really see everybody lock in and stay together as a team and as a unit because that is the only way we are going to be successful and win games.”

BRONCOS DEFENSIVE END DEREK WOLFE
On keeping everyone together“I think that is something that will either make or break us as a team. You either stick together or you separate, and everyone becomes an individual and does what is best for themselves. That’s when football isn’t fun anymore whenever you aren’t playing as a team. So hopefully we can do a good job of staying together and use this. Adversity can bring you together or break you, so we have to use this to bring us together, use it as a positive otherwise we are in for another [bad] season.”
On what made Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette so hard to tackle“He was patient in the backfield. They were tying to run it up inside the tackles, we would jam it up and then he would just bounce outside. That was the problem, it was just cut backs and bounce plays. He wasn’t just busting up the middle. I have to watch the film so I can’t really tell you what’s going on here. I just know that we have to do a better job of tackling because it is embarrassing to have someone run for some 200 yards on you.”
On whether he thinks the team will be able to turn things around“Yeah I really do. I think we have a really good football team. We have a bunch of really good players. We have a genius for a head coach. It’s just that we have a new head coach again. There is always a learning curve, so we just have to ride the wave and hopefully we end up on top of it and don’t drown. We can’t drown, we have to swim to the top again. Try to just keep grinding, keep pushing, just keep trying to keep getting better at the things that we are making mistakes on. I’ll take responsibility for knowing that I need to learn the defense better as well. I have to know where those linebackers will be fitting. I’ve been in the same defense for so long. You have to know where those linebackers are going to fit so you can feel confident coming off the block. You go make the tackle instead of just waiting, letting the running back sit back there, pitter patter and then find an open hole to take. So that is my fault, I need to understand this defense a little bit better because it is a complicated defense, but it is an effective defense if you do it right.”

JAGUARS HEAD COACH DOUG MARRONE
Opening Statement“How about that, huh? Hell of a game. I’ll tell you what, hell of a job. A lot of credit to Denver and a lot of credit obviously to the coaches and players in our room. It’s hard to win on the road. We were down, had a chance to get up one score right before the half. Didn’t. Had the penalty. Too many penalties in the game overall. We have to learn from that. It’s kind of like a broken record, but I think we are starting to get through that. Halftime was great, talked to the players. Offensively, we didn’t have that many opportunities. I think we had 21 or 22 plays. I talked to the offense at half and said, ‘I don’t think we made a third-down conversion.’ Denver did a great job. I told them I know we can run the football. I want to treat this game like it’s 0-0. Let’s work our way back into it, and we’ve got to convert on third down. If we don’t, we aren’t going to be able to win this game. Then I went over to the defensive side and I told them the things that we need to work on. I gave them two or three things. I told everyone that we’re not going to panic. We’re going to play together. Special teams played well. We are going to work our way back in and find a way to win. They came out with a big drive. Ten minutes, that’s a long time in this league. 18 plays or 20 something maybe. We scored. Obviously, [QB] Gardner [Minshew II] did some great things. [RB] Leonard [Fournette] played really well. If you say he played well, you have to give credit to those guys up front. We beat them up pretty much when we were running the football so you have to give a little credit up there. Receivers did a nice job. Really, coaches and the players carved one on the road. You’re losing at halftime and you come back and take the lead. You lose the lead with a 1:28 left and you’re able to come back and score and win again. That’s hard to do, especially in a place like Denver. I have a lot of respect for the fans here, and obviously I have a ton of respect for the organization.”
On Fournette’s performance“We blocked them. I don’t want to go against what I was saying that whole time. There was some room there. I will say that he was definitely finishing. Once you get in the line of scrimmage, you’re able to finish. If you get hit behind the line of scrimmage, it’s very difficult to finish. There was a catch in there. There are some things he does that get overlooked. We got [RB] Ryquell [Armstead] in there too and he scored. All he cared about was getting the ball. He asked me how to get the ball. It was exciting. An exciting game and an exciting win.”
On Minshew II creating plays“He’s spinning around. He’s breaking tackles. It’s like when you’re 12 and you’re playing in the street with a bunch of guys. He’s just trying to make a play. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes you sit there and say, ‘Hey, let’s not take these chances. Just go down or run.’ The guy made plays. You guys saw it. I’m poor with adjectives anyway, you guys are much better at describing it so whatever you say, I’m just agreeing with it.”
On Minshew II’s play this season“I look at what’s good and what’s bad. I do that in the moment, but if I step back and I’m not in this job and I look back at what happens and say, ‘Oh, my God.’ We’ve all been around long enough to know how hard and how difficult it is to play quarterback in the NFL. It’s hard to find them, it’s hard to develop them. There’s not a guy in this room that would have said after the preseason that this guy is going to go out and play like he has. I think he’s changed the way I look at things in the preseason. I wasn’t sure. Then all of a sudden, when you don’t take a snap, you’re running the scout team and you get thrown in the game against Kansas City and you perform well. You don’t miss a beat. The other thing that’s going to get missed is that even though we lost the lead, the way he was taking the clock down to less than five seconds each time we snapped the football. Everyone thinks that’s easy. Break the huddle and look at the clock. It’s not easy. There’s nothing easy about playing this game. Is it remarkable? Yeah, I think it is. Is it becoming something that’s expected week in and week out? It’s starting to. That’s what happens when you do this one week and you do it another week and now you’re looking for it all the time. Expectations rise. It’s still early in the season, early in his career, early in a lot of guy’s careers. A lot of times early on you’re like, ‘This guy can’t play,’ or, ‘This guy is great,’ and everything you do right now is probably somewhere in the middle until you can get a really good body of work where you feel comfortable week in and week out. Different games, different defenses. That’s a long-ass answer.”
On if he was concerned about the defense giving up the lead late“Sure. Those guys have a lot of pride. They take that field with the lead and just need to stop them. Credit to Denver. We were close to getting to the quarterback and they get the ball over the middle. They made some good plays. Good (protections), good combinations, good schemes. They come off the field and there’s enough time. If you asked those guys, I think they’d say they thought there was enough time for us to come back and get a field goal or at least have an opportunity. They have a lot of belief in each other and that’s important on our football team.”
On whether he ever forgets that Minshew II is a rookie“I don’t think I ever treat anyone like that. I think what happens is when you’re on that field for whatever reason, whether it’s due to injury or whatever it may be, the expectations for you to perform are high. That’s in everyone’s mind. For me, what I look at, is when I have a young player, I might show him something in the week. Something that popped up in the week and say, ‘Hey, let’s get better from this. Let’s put this in the back of your mind. Let’s learn from this.’ I think there’s a little bit more learning, but that comes after the game in the film room. That doesn’t come during the game. You’re working through the game, but there’s no time to think ‘Hey, this guy’s a rookie.’”

JAGUARS RUNNING BACK LEONARD FOURNETTE
On if he is happy after his performance today despite being frustrated this season“No, I’m happy. It’s just one start. We have plenty more games to go. During practice we took our time out, tried to fix the running game and we came out and we were successful.”
On how much of a confidence boost this performance gives the team“It’s confidence for the O-line and especially myself too and just moving forward from that. Right now we’ve got Carolina and we’re on to the next team right now.”
On his long run“The line did their part and my job is to make one guy miss then score the ball.”
On how he was able to be physical today and break tackles“It’s a mentality. I knew coming in during the week preparing for the Broncos, just making one guy miss or not letting one guy tackle me. That’s my whole mentality coming into this game when I was practicing.”  On what he saw in QB Gardner Minshew II in the second half“His name is Jockstrap King. He’s playing his part and what more can I ask from him? I apologized to him for the last couple of weeks, I was very frustrated and I didn’t congratulate him when I was supposed to and he’s doing a hell of a job.”
On the opening drive of the second half setting the tone for the rest of the game“Most definitely, just getting back to what we’re good at, running the ball and it was effective. All of the guys put a body on a body and they also kind of stopped [Broncos OLB] Von [Miller] and also [OLB Bradley] Chubb, those are two great athletes they did a great job neutralizing those two guys.”
On if he knew he was going to break his long before it happened“It was going to come. The O-line was like ‘Just keep pushing and keep pushing’ and they were telling me that while getting four or five yards a carry, which is a good thing, and it just came.”
On being able to get three straight runs for 27 yards to start the second half“It was momentum for us. We know that they have a great offense and we were just trying to keep them off the field as long as could and give our defense their breathe back and take over the game.”
On how good it feels to have a 10-minute drive to open the second half“Most definitely.”
On if the team saw signs they would be able to run the ball in the second half“Most definitely. They had holes there and not just me, I think that [RB Ryquell] Armstead did a great job too. Coming in when I needed a break, his breakout game, he stole my touchdown too. I’m happy for everyone all over the board. There’s a lot of adversity that we have going on and this team is a fighting team.”
On what it means to him to have a 100-plus yard game after over a year“It’s good, but it’s over now and on to the next. We’ve got to prepare for Carolina.”
On if the offensive line were frustrated too before the game“The O-Line had a dinner on Thursday, [OL] Brandon [Linder] and everyone else they were like ‘We’re going to get you another TD’ and I believed in them. I think little things like that; bonding outside of football, going to lunches with each other (inaudible).”
On his viewpoint of Armstead’s touchdown“Coach Scott [Milanovich], their Quarterbacks Coach, they practice that, when we do individuals, sometimes they have cones where he tells them to go back, forward and sideways. Once you practice something eventually it’s going to come to light and he did.”
On if he thought Minshew was down“Nah he’s tougher than what you think. I don’t know if the moustache gives him power or whatever he got going on, but he’s playing his part.”
On if he watched the final kick“I watched it. [K Josh] Lambo has practiced that and Lambo’s been doing a great job since he got here. You practice how you play, he didn’t miss a kick in practice and he’s doing a great job.”

JAGUARS QUARTERBACK GARDNER MINSHEW II
On how he feels after the win“I’m feeling good. That was an incredible team win. Awesome experience with those guys, just celebrating. A lot of times, you take for granted what wins feel like and that celebration with your teammates, so that was an awesome experience.”
On the team’s ability to come from behind to win“It just shows our resilience as a team. Offense is down there, really good defense is picking us up and vice versa. It just shows we can do that any week.”
On the success of the running game“It’s huge. That’s what won us the game. [RB] Leonard [Fournette], [RB Ryquell Armstead], the whole offensive line, tight ends, they absolutely dominated and that makes everything so much easier for the offense.”
On what was said at halftime and what adjustments were made“I think we just weren’t going to freak out. We were down 11 and we got some points right before half. That was huge. We knew we were going to get the ball back and give it right back again. I think that belief and/or doubt in who we can be is huge.”
On the final drive“It was crazy. We knew we had to make some plays right there. We had the ball, it got tipped up, I got hit, it was crazy. I was on the ground. I didn’t see. You kind of listen. If the crowd goes wild, you know it’s bad. Nothing was really said, so I knew we were good. Then we get the penalty, then [WR] Dede [Westbrook] runs an awesome route. That was awesome.”
On if he suffered an injury in the fourth quarter“I just got hit in the lower body. Just football stuff.” On RB Ryquell Armstead’s first touchdown“That’s crazy. All of the initial read was covered. They were just trying to make a play at that point. Try to protect the ball first and make a play. He did an awesome job. He ran a flat, came back around, and back out. It was awesome on him. Really happy he had his first touchdown.”
On his ability to evade sacks throughout the game“I tried to for most of it, because I know we have receivers that are working the whole time and we had some big plays today, so I was really happy how they kept working for me.”
On Fournette’s 81-yard touchdown “It was huge. We were kind of backed up at that point. We got a good run, our line blocked up and he did what he does. Once he gets into secondary one-on-one, he’s hard to deal with. That was huge for him. I was really happy for him to really get rolling. He’s been getting frustrated, but it was an awesome day for him. I couldn’t be more happy for him.”
On the team’s fourth-quarter comebacks“It shows our resilience. We’re never going to count ourselves out. We’re just going to keep playing when things don’t go our way early. It’s okay, we have to believe in ourselves. No matter what’s going on right now, we believe that we can do it. That was a fun thing to see, our guys coming together and leading to a win.
On the offensive line’s performance“They’re incredible. We don’t win the game if they don’t play like they did. Giving them the 200-whatever yards rushing, that’s huge. That makes scoring the ball so much easier, so really happy with them.”

JAGUARS DEFENSIVE END CALAIS CAMPBELL
On the win“We didn’t play our best football game by any means, but we found a way to get a win on the road. That’s huge. This team has a lot of resilience and had a lot of fight in us today. Our O-line was able to run the ball and [QB] Gardner [Minshew II] in that last drive found a way to get the ball into field goal range and give a very makeable kick for our kicker. He (K Josh Lambo) comes up big for us.”
On QB Gardner Minshew II“He never surprises me. He is one of those guys where you know he can do everything. He has great instincts and is very magical.”
On winning two games in a row“It’s huge. To start 0-2 and then find a way to win two tough ball games in a row. You have to stack wins in this league if you want to be successful. We found a way to become 2-2 and the rest of the division is 2-2. We are in a position where we are tied for first place and control our own destiny.”
On SS Ronnie Harrison’s interception“It changed the momentum. They were having their way with us for a while. They had a great game plan and were executing really well. Ronnie made a play and changed the whole momentum. We went to halftime feeling pretty good. We knew we just had to keep playing football. [RB Leonard] Fournette just took over. Our O-line and Fournette were beautiful to see.”

JAGUARS KICKER JOSH LAMBO
On the game winning kick and living for those types of moments“I just live for whatever is put in front of me, man. If it’s forth down and in my range, I’m going to hit it, so I’m just trying to do what I’m supposed to do.”
On the chaotic ending to the game“As soon as they [the Broncos] went down and scored I knew I had a game winning kick in front of me because I knew we were going to get down the field. I know a lot of kickers want to be seen and not heard, but I’ve kind of had this vibe coming with me to tell these guys, ‘hey, we need to bring our own juice and we need to bring our own sauce’. When we bring our lunch pails to work, nobody can touch us, and that it exactly why you play for 60 minutes. It’s hard to hold onto a lead in this league, it really is. If you look at most of the wins, I bet you a lot of them are comebacks, just because it’s hard to hold a lead. So, these guys [Jacksonville Jaguars] did amazing. I had four field goals, and I think the furthest one was from 40 yards, so our offensive was moving the ball. Our defense, obviously, did a great job as well. I really can’t speak enough about the character of our team.”
On having more confidence with QB Gardner Minshew II leading their offense“I wasn’t even worried. As soon as they [the Broncos] scored, I told our guys ‘hey, keep the media away from me and block the wall. It’s going to come down to a kick and we’ll be fine’. I went up to Chris Conley and told him, ‘dude, you’re tip toeing on the line. Get me those extra yards because they help me so much’. It puts me at so much ease when these guys are grinding out there and doing what they do. Seriously, when we bring our lunch pail to work, everybody needs to be scared.
On how fun it is to watch Quarterback Gardner Minshew II“This whole team is fun to watch. Obviously, Gardner [Minshew II] has done a heck of a job coming in. I love his personality and the way he goes about his job. He’s just a fun guy to be around and I think he energizes our team as well. This was just a huge team win and everybody played really well. I’m just fortunate enough that they [the offense] gave me an easy enough shot to put it through.”
 JAGUARS CENTER BRANDON LINDER
On the dominant rushing performance“That was awesome. That was a great game and we’re proud of that. That’s what we wanted to do from the get go. That’s just 11 guys doing their job, credit to [RB] Leonard [Fournette] for rushing the ball and all of the guys for putting a head on a hat and opening up some holes. We talked about having a big day and that’s what we went out and did.”
On Leonard Fournette’s performance“We called it before the game. We knew we were going to run the ball and that’s exactly what we did. That’s what we wanted to do and we did it.”
On the difference between the two halves“We just communicated and started to understand what they were going to do and went out and attacked and did our assignments. We had 11 guys doing their job and then we produced.”
On the 10-minute drive to open the second half“We loved it. I didn’t even realize it was that long, I was huffing and puffing. I needed some oxygen when I came onto the sideline but that was awesome, that’s what we want. It was a great team win.”
