American Athletic Conference Announces Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the seventh week of the regular season.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Johnell Davis, Jr., G, Florida Atlantic

Davis helped lead Florida Atlantic to its first win over an AP Top-10 team Saturday, a 96-95 double overtime win over No. 4 Arizona in the Desert Holiday Classic in Las Vegas. The junior guard scored 35 points, including 10 points after regulation. Davis also recorded nine rebounds and three steals.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

PJ Haggerty, G, Tulsa

Haggerty averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals in a pair of Golden Hurricane wins, including 23 points against New Mexico State on Friday.

HONOR ROLL

RJ Felton, Jr., G, East Carolina

Felton recorded 26 points and eight rebounds as the Pirates defeated Delaware State on Wednesday.

David Jones, Sr., F, Memphis

Jones averaged 27.0 points and 6.5 rebounds as the Tigers picked up home wins over then-No. 22 Virginia and Vanderbilt.

Jason Edwards, So., G, North Texas

Edwards came off the bench and scored a North Texas season-high 26 points to lead the Mean Green to a 78-52 over UT Arlington Saturday afternoon.

Chris Youngblood, Sr., G, South Florida

Youngblood scored 23 points and added four assists and three rebounds in the Bulls’ 89-73 win over Albany on Friday.

Samuell Wiliamson, Sr., F, SMU

Williamson averaged 14.0 points and 10.5 rebounds as the Mustangs won at home against Houston Christian on Tuesday and on the road at Murray State on Friday.
