Allen Earns C-USA Player of the Week

BOCA RATON, Fla. –  Iggy Allen of the Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team has been tabbed as Conference USA Player of the Week, as announced by the league Monday. Midway through an impressive first season with the Owls, this marks a first for Allen and Jim Jabir‘s squad this season.

“I’m glad to see that Iggy [Allen], who I think is one of the top players in our league, is finally recognized for the great talent and passion she brings,” said head coach Jim Jabir. “I also realize our winning games makes it easier to vote for her.”

The Pompano Beach, Florida product went on a tear this weekend in FAU’s series at WKU, averaging 27.0 points per game on 60% shooting along with 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. Allen was unstoppable on Friday night, as she notched a career-high 35 points, while shooting 14-for-23 from the field. She also pulled down 13 rebounds to earn her third consecutive double-double and fifth of the season, and earned a career-high three blocks.

Allen kept the momentum rolling into Saturday night, as FAU defeated WKU, 75-70, winning at E.A. Diddle Arena for the first time in school history, while breaking a 12-game losing streak overall against the Lady Toppers. She logged 19 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win.

The guard’s 14 field goals made on Friday night is tied for the most scored by a conference player this season, while her 35 points is the fourth most scored by an Owl in a single-game in program history, as well as second most by a C-USA player this year.

In C-USA, Allen is ranked second in steals per game (2.7 SPG) and rebounds per game (10.6 RPG), third in points per game (21.5 PPG) and tied for eighth in 3-pointers per game (2.2). She also sits at 16th in defensive rebounds per game (7.6), 20th in points per game, 29th in rebounds per game and 35th in steals per game among all NCAA players.

This marks the second consecutive season an FAU player has been tabbed C-USA Player of the Week after Crystal Primm brought home the honor on November 25, 2019. Allen is the sixth Owl in program history to be recognized with the honor since FAU joined C-USA at the start of the 2013-14 season.

The Owls will return back home at Abessinio Court at FAU Arena to face UTSA in a C-USA series on Friday, Feb. 12 (5 p.m.) and Saturday, Feb. 13 (2 p.m.).
