Women’s Swimming: Trio of Fighting Knights Earn All-SSC Honors

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s swimming program received three honorees on the 2019-20 All-Sunshine State Conference (SSC) team, as announced on Thursday afternoon.

Freshman Ewa Osiniak was tabbed to the First Team while freshman Samantha Beck and sophomore Karolina Smylek earned Second Team plaudits.

Osiniak finished in the top-four in the 200-IM, 100-Free and 200-Free at the SSC Championships, taking the bronze in the 200-IM with a time of 2:02.11. A native of Lublin, Poland, she has notched four NCAA ‘B’ cut times (100-free, 200-free, 100-breast, 200-IM) this season and will be an integral part of the 2020 NCAA Championships team for the Fighting Knights. Osiniak earns First Team honors as a freshman, the first in Lynn women’s swimming history to accomplish this feat.

Beck will also be headed to Geneva, Ohio as part of Lynn’s nationals contingent after securing NCAA ‘B’ cuts in the 200-breast along with the 200 and 400-IMs. The Sparks, Nev. native posted fourth place finishes in both the 400-IM and 200-breast at the SSC Championships. Beck and Osiniak become the first freshman duo to appear on the All-SSC team in program history.

Smylek, who earned Second Team honors as a freshman in 2019, picks up her second career accolade after two appearances on the podium at the SSC Championships. The sophomore took third in both the 100-back and 200-back and competed in the ‘A’ final of the 100-fly. She currently has NCAA ‘B’ cuts in the 100-back and 200-back and will play an integral role in Lynn’s ‘A’ relay team with Osiniak, Beck and Clara Monges. Smylek becomes Lynn’s first back-to-back All-SSC honoree since Sarah Hughes, who earned three-straight selections from 2017-19.

Osiniak, Beck and Smylek are gearing up for the 2020 NCAA Division II National Championships, which will take place from March 11-14 in Geneva, Ohio.
