BIRMINGHAM – UAB softball will make its way to Starkville, Miss. for the Snowman: Alex Wilcox Memorial Tournament this weekend to face host Mississippi State, Alcorn State and UT Martin.
UAB (8-7) looks to get back in the win column after a tough weekend against top competition in the Blazer Classic last weekend. The Blazers went 0-4 on the weekend with losses to No. 11 Louisiana, No. 14 Oklahoma State and a pair of losses to Ole Miss including a four and a half hour 13 inning marathon game.
Dylinn Stancil has continued to impress in her senior campaign, leading C-USA in batting average (.481) through three weeks of the season. She is second in the league in hits (25) and has a pair of five hit games on the season going 5-for-5 against Southeastern Louisiana and 5-for-6 against Ole Miss.
The Snowman kicks off Friday as the Blazers face Alcorn State at 4:30 p.m. before squaring off against host Mississippi State at 7 p.m. Saturday UAB will play UT Martin at 12:30 p.m. and Mississippi State again at 3 p.m. The Blazers will wrap up the tournament with UT Martin on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
The Snowman Alex Wilcox Memorial Tournament is in honor of former Mississippi State softball player Alex Wilcox who passed away from ovarian cancer in June of 2018. Wilcox, a native of Brantley, Ala., inspired the entire softball community with her strength in bravery while living out her dream of playing collegiate softball.
