Women’s Basketball Concludes Homestand with Visit from ODU

BOCA RATON, Fla. – (Jan. 24, 2020) – The Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team (9-9, 3-4 C-USA) looks to close out the homestand on a high note, as the Owls receive a visit from Old Dominion (15-3, 5-1 C-USA). Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. with the game being broadcast on ESPN+.

About the Owls:

  • The Owls hope to build upon the momentum they started to brew on Thursday after a 65-44 victory over Charlotte. That win marked the least amount of points an FAU defense has given up in a conference game in their seven years in Conference USA
  • FAU will seek its first win over the Monarchs in school history, as the Owls are 0-8 against the squad
  • Crystal Primm has played four straight games tallying 20+ points. The guard leads the team with 15.6 points per game along with 7.3 rebounds per game. Lotta Vehka-Aho follows with 11.8 points per game and leads the team in assists (54) and steals (31). Juliette Gauthier is the leading rebounder (7.4 per game), while averaging 11.1 points per game
  • Head coach Jim Jabir is one win away from the 500th of his career

Last Time Out:

  • FAU beat Charlotte in dominating fashion on Thursday in a 65-44 decision
  • The Owls’ defense held the 49ers to a 26.8 shooting percentage and a 12.5 percentage from 3-point range. Holding Charlotte to 44 points is the least amount of points FAU has held an opponent to while playing in Conference USA
  • Primm played her fourth straight game with 20+ points. The guard led all scorers with 20 going 4-6 from beyond the arc
  • Gauthier followed with 18 points and nine rebounds, while going 4-6 from beyond the arc
  • Astou Gaye finished the night with eight points, seven rebounds and three assists

Scouting ODU:

  • Head coach Nikki McCray-Penson has turned around an ODU program that sits second in the C-USA standings with only one loss to UAB. The Monarchs also have the best overall record in C-USA at 15-3
  • ODU has the best scoring defense in the conference, holding opponents to 52.6 points per game, as well as holds the best scoring margin at +13.1
  • ODU has solid production all around, as Ajah Wayne is the Monarchs’ leading scorer with 11.4 points per game along with 6.7 rebounds per game
  • Amari Young leads the team with 7.8 rebounds per game, which is eighth in C-USA

History Against the Monarchs:

  • FAU has played the Monarchs every year since 2014, the Owls’ first year in C-USA
  • The Owls hold an 0-8 record against the Monarchs
  • The Owls and Monarchs faced off three times last season. In the first meeting in Norfolk, Virginia, the Owls dropped the contest 87-53. Glenisha Harkless had nine points and four boards, while Amber Gaston followed with seven points and five rebounds
  • The Owls came close to an upset victory over ODU during FAU’s Senior Night, but fell, 68-64. Abby Voss had seven points and six rebounds
  • The third meeting was at the C-USA Tournament, as the Owls lost, 60-32. FAU was hit with the injury bug and suited up six players in the game. Harkless led the Owls with 12 points and Voss pulled down eight rebounds

Upcoming:

FAU will travel to Western Kentucky to face the Hilltoppers on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Owls will return home on Thursday, Feb. 13 to face Southern Miss at 7 p.m.
