DATE: MAY 25, 2019

The American’s Freshman of the Year brings USF’s all-region selection total up to 10 since 2014.

Bergstrom reeled in more prestigious recognition after setting numerous program season records, including scoring average (70.0) and rounds of par or better (24).

TAMPA, MAY 25, 2019 – Albin Bergstrom reeled in more prestigious recognition for his record-breaking first season with the Bulls by being named to the Division I PING All-Southeast Region Team on Saturday.

The American’s Freshman of the Year from Ljunghusen, Sweden earned all-region honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America after setting numerous top program season marks, including scoring average (70.0) and rounds of par or better (24).

“I think it just validates the season that Albin had and he’s certainly deserving of it,” head coach Steve Bradley said. “It was an awesome year for him and he greatly helped our team. He was somebody we could count on every time we teed it up.”

The American’s unanimous freshman of the year and all-conference selection capped off his stellar debut season with the program by leading the Bulls in their seventh consecutive NCAA Regional appearance. At the Stanford Regional, Bergstrom registered his seventh top-10 finish out of 11 team events and increased his total to 16 rounds in the 60s this season.

The member of Sweden’s junior national team also led USF with nine top-25 finishes and captured a tournament title. Bergstrom set the program’s new 54-hole scoring record for a par-72 tournament with a 15-under 201 in a nine-shot victory at the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate on March 5.

Checking in at No. 48 on the Golfstat individual list, Bergstrom is currently the fourth-highest ranked freshman in the nation. His stellar play also helped USF’s freshman class rank second nationally on Golfstat’s Top Frosh list.

“We’re in pretty good hands. We’ve got five freshmen on the team and Albin happens to be the best one of the bunch, as of right now,” Bradley said. “He did a good job in the classroom this year and the balance he has between golf, school and social is of high quality. He’s been a joy to coach and I’m looking forward to many more good years with him.”

Bergstrom earning a spot on the PING All-Southeast Region Team brings USF’s all-region total up to 10 selections since 2014.
