USF WGolf Signs In-State Standout Camargo

Juliana Camargo is the sixth-ranked Class of 2021 recruit in the state of Florida who competes for Windermere High School and has shined in several AJGA, FJT events.

TAMPA, NOV. 11, 2020 – One of the top-ranked Class of 2021 recruits in the state of Florida has joined the USF women’s golf program as standout Juliana Camargo signed a National Letter of Intent with the Bulls on Wednesday.

The incoming freshman is ranked No. 39 by Junior Golf Scoreboard and she’s rated as the sixth-best Class of 2021 recruit in Florida with a stroke average of 73.63.

“Juliana is a special player with an even more dynamic personality,” head coach Erika Brennan said. “She is incredibly polite and is bought in for her comprehensive excellence. She continued to rise in the rankings and is no stranger to red numbers. We are thrilled that Juliana is the next great Bull.”

Camargo’s golf resume is filled with several shining achievements, including qualifying for the Notah Begay III National Championship through the Mission Inn Resort Regional Qualifier with a 4-under total score (70-68). She also qualified for the USGA Women’s Four-Ball Championship.

Camargo placed in the top three four times at American Junior Golf Association tournaments. She won the 2019 Florida Junior Tour at Country Club of Ocala event (71-76) a year after capturing a title at the FJT at Black Bear Golf Club (69-76).  Camargo also was crowned champion at the 2017 FJT at Amelia Island Plantation (75-72) and tied for third at the 2020 FJT Stone Creek event (75-70-67).

Originally from Bogota, Colombia, Camargo does home schooling through Florida Virtual School and competes for Windermere High School in Winter Garden, Fla. On the state stage, she placed fifth individually at the Class 3A FHSAA Championship (70-75) and fired a 7-under 64 in the district tournament at West Orange Country Club.

“We are very excited to welcome Juliana officially to our Bulls family!” assistant coach Dalton Stevens said. “Juliana is somebody that really stood out in the recruiting process for us not only due to her golf talent but she is very mature young lady who will represent our program in a first-class manner on and off the golf course. Ever since her verbal pledge to us, she has really worked hard on her game and has shown a huge climb in the recruiting rankings. We had a blast recruiting Juliana and are excited about what the future holds for her here in Tampa as the next great Bull.”

In addition to excelling on the course, Camargo is a stellar student who earned a spot on the 2019 AJGA Scholastic Honor Roll and she plans on majoring in economics at USF.

“I chose USF because it felt that it was a perfect fit for me,” Camargo said. “As soon as I stepped on campus, everyone welcomed me with open arms. It really felt like the Bulls are a family and I couldn’t be more honored to be part of it.”
