USF WBB: Bulls Lose To Rice, 69-59

Tampa, Fla. –  Feb. 7, 2024 – South Florida women’s basketball (14-10, 6-5) was led by freshman guard Vittoria Blasigh with 17 points in a 69-59 loss to Rice (13-9, 7-4) at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Fla. on Wednesday.

Senior guard Evelien Lutje Schipholt gathered her fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and a season-best 14 rebounds. Redshirt junior forward Romi Levy (13 points) collared her 15th game of the season in double-digits.

Redshirt senior guard Aerial Wilson matched a season-best 8 assists for the third time this season.

NOTABLE NUMBERS

  • Tonight marked the third straight game that three Bulls scored in double-figures.
  • Aerial Wilson (449 Career Assists) maneuvered past Kia Nurse (UConn, 2014-18) into 10th on the AAC Career Assists ledger.
  • Blasigh has logged 17 games in double figures this season and has scored in double digits in seven of the last eight games.
  • Lutje Schipholt’s 16 points marked the most she has put up in a game this season since 10 at Tulane (Jan. 6)

South Florida heads to Philadelphia, Pa. on Saturday, Feb. 10 for a meeting with Temple. Tipoff is slated for 3:00 p.m. and the game will stream live on ESPN+.

For the fourth consecutive year, The American’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will be contested at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Both Championships expand to 14 teams this season with The Women’s Championship running March 9-13. Ticket packages for the Women’s Championship will be $85 per package. South Florida women’s basketball recorded its 11th 20-win season during the 2022-23 campaign. USF has made 18 postseason tournament appearances and had nine NCAA Tournament berths in head coach Jose Fernandez’s 23 seasons. The all-time winningest coach in program history, Fernandez has guided USF to 11 20-win seasons, two WNIT final four appearances, the 2009 WNIT championship, has won over 400 career games, and is the all-time wins leader in the American Athletic Conference.
