USF Softball: USF Softball Shuts Out Mean Green

TAMPA, Fla., March 28, 2024 – The University of South Florida softball team (24-13, 4-6 AAC) shut out the North Texas Mean Green (19-13, 8-2 AAC) to open the weekend series on Thursday night. The Bulls won with a score of 5-0.   

South Florida now has nine shutouts this season, eight of them have happened on their home field.

North Texas had the early scoring threat in the second inning. They quickly loaded the bases but left them loaded.

Two walks for the Bulls put a runner in scoring position in the third inning. An RBI single from Marissa Trivelpiece (Sugarloaf, Pa.), her 16th RBI of the season, gave the Bulls the early lead.

The Bulls added to their lead in the fifth inning, scoring three runs. Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel) started the inning with a lead-off double. A single from Olivia Elliott (Tampa) brought one run across the plate. A Mean Green error and a fielder’s choice scored two more runs for the Bulls, giving them the 4-0 lead.  

Alyssa Rano (Seminole) pinch-hit in the sixth inning and hit a lead-off single. She advanced on a groundout and then scored on an RBI single from Kadlub.

Payton Dixon (Smyrna, Del.) pitched her fourth complete-game shutout. It was her seventh complete game of the season. Dixon added five strikeouts, bringing her season total to 98.

Notables

  • Kadlub had her third multi-hit performance of the season and hit her second double.
  • The Bulls earned their ninth shutout of the season, their eighth at home.
  • Alanah Rivera (St. Petersburg) now leads the team with 20 RBI.
  • Alexa Galligani (White Plains, N.Y.) drew three walks.
