USF SOFTBALL: USF Prepares for Two-Game Series against No. 2 Arizona

Bulls host a top-10 opponent for the second time this season

TAMPA, FLA.
 Feb. 26, 2021 – The University of South Florida softball team hosts the No. 2 team in the country this weekend as the Arizona Wildcats visit USF Softball Stadium for a two-game set. Game one will be played on Saturday, March 6 at 1 p.m. and the weekend wrap-up will feature a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday, March 7.

Due to virus mitigation measures and the size of the venue, fan attendance at USF Softball Stadium will be via team pass list only. All regular-season home games during the 2021 season will be broadcast on the ESPN+ platform.

Arizona holds a 12-1 advantage in the all-time series. The Bulls won the last meeting in 2019, a 4-1 victory in Tucson, Ariz. The Wildcats’ last win also came in 2019, a 4-1 win in Tampa.

USF is coming off a weekend series win against Florida Atlantic. Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.), who was named The American Pitcher of the Week for the second week in a row, threw 37 strikeouts over 17 innings in the circle, allowing only one run in a 1-1 weekend where she also posted a save. In the batter’s box, Corrick was just as effective, hitting two home runs in the first game of the series.

Opponent

Arizona enters the weekend ranked No. 2/3 in the nation and holds an undefeated, 10-0 record so far this season. The Wildcats are coming off a 5-0 weekend at the Wildcat Invitational, with wins over BYU, Oregon State, Colorado State and Seattle.

Arizona is led on offense by redshirt senior Dejah Mulipola (.444, 4 HR, 18 RBI) and Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza (.433, 2 HR, 10 RBI). In the circle, redshirt seniors Alyssa Denham (24.0 IP, 0.29 ERA) and Mariah Lopez (19.0 IP, 1.84 ERA) have handled the bulk of the Wildcats innings so far this season. Mike Candrea leads Arizona as head coach and holds a 1643-421-2 record all-time as head coach.
