USF SOFTBALL: USF Earns 16th NCAA Tournament Appearance, Set to Play in Gainesville Regional

The Bulls are a four-seed in the regional hosted at the University of Florida


TAMPA, FLA. May 16, 2021 – The University of South Florida softball team is heading to its seventh NCAA tournament appearance since 2012. The Bulls were selected as the fourth seed in the Gainesville Regional, the NCAA announced on Sunday. Regional play will be played from May 21-23 at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.

“I’m glad to see the NCAA committee took our numbers on paper and our conference’s powerful RPI into consideration,” head coach Ken Eriksen said. “To be able to play up the road from Tampa and give our fans the opportunity to cheer us on is a great opportunity.”


USF (29-17) travels to Gainesvilleto take part in a four-team double-elimination regional tournament that also features regional one-seed and national four-seed Florida, regional two-seed Baylorand regional three-seed South Alabama.The Bulls battle Floridato begin play in the regional on May 21 at 2 p.m. on ESPNU. This is the seventh time USF has traveled to Gainesville, Fla. for NCAA Regional play.


The Bulls finished as runner-up in American Athletic Conference regular season play, posting a 16-7 record against league opponents. USF was eliminated in the conference tournament semifinals by eventual-runner-up UCF.

The winner of the regional will advance to a best-of-three Super Regional series which will run from May 27 through May 30. Each of the eight Super Regional winners move on to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla. starting June 3.


The Bulls have advanced to Super Regional play twice (2006 and 2012) and the Women’s College World Series once (2012). In both trips to Super Regionals, the Bulls played in the Gainesville Regional.
