TAMPA, FLA. March 25, 2021 – The University of South Florida softball team opens its 2021 conference schedule this weekend with a four-game series against the Memphis Tigers. Game one of the series will be on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. and the series wraps up on Sunday at 10 a.m.
Due to virus mitigation measures and the size of the venue, fan attendance at USF Softball Stadium will be via team pass list only. All regular-season home games during the 2021 season will be broadcast on the ESPN+ platform.
USF leads the all-time series, 19-4, against Memphis. The last meeting, in the AAC Tournament in 2019, was an 8-0 win in six innings for the Bulls.
South Florida is coming off a doubleheader sweep against the University of North Florida. The Bulls were led by Alexis Johns (Sarasota, Fla.), who went 4-for-5 in the leadoff spot in the doubleheader. She also drove home four runs while crossing the plate twice, adding a double and two stolen bases to her total. Vivian Ponn (Fort Myers, Fla.) earned the win in game one and Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) picked up the win in game two.
Opponent
Memphis finished the nonconference portion of its schedule with a 6-16 record. In its latest series, Louisiana Tech took two of three games against the Tigers.
On offense, Gracie Morton leads Memphis with a .309 average in 68 at-bats, adding two triples and two home runs to her count. Kendall Lee paces the Tigers with 18 RBIs. In the circle, Mariah Nichols has handled the most innings for Memphis, putting up an 8.79 ERA in
42 innings.
