USF SOFTBALL: Corrick Repeats as The American Pitcher of the Year

Four players earn all-conference team recognition

TAMPA, FLA. May 12, 2021 – University of South Florida softball student-athlete Georgina Corrick earned the title of the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year, the league announced on Wednesday. Corrick and AnaMarie Bruni also were voted to the all-conference first team, while Alexis Johns and Megan Pierro were selected to the all-conference second team.

“These awards are a testament to the team being behind these four,” head coach Ken Eriksen said. “Georgina did a great job this year, keeping other teams at bay throughout the entire game and her team put up runs in crucial situations for her to continue to get the Ws. AnaMarie and Alexis did a good job in the one-two spot for us this year. They don’t get as many runs as they do without having people around her do a great job as well. Hard work pays off for all four of our honorees. Megan, Alexis, AnaMarie and Georgina have had a great work ethic for us this year.”

This is Corrick’s third consecutive AAC Pitcher of the Year honor, joining previous selections in 2018 and 2019. The Great Britain National Team member has been stellar for USF this season, posting a 21-6 record with a 0.92 ERA. She’s thrown three no-hitters in 2021, one against North Dakota and back-to-back efforts against East Carolina.

Her ERA is ninth in the nation and ranks first in the conference, and she only allows 3.33 hits per seven innings, which is also ninth in the country and first in the AAC. Her 13 shutout efforts this season is tied for the Division I lead. She’s thrown 282 strikeouts, which is third in the country and first in the conference.

Against only conference opponents, Corrick has posted a 0.41 ERA, only allowing six earned runs in 103.1 innings in the circle. She’s also held opposing hitters to a .110 batting average and posted seven shutouts in 14 complete game efforts.

Bruni has hit at a .392/.467/.431 rate this year, including a .444/.518/.486 slash in conference play. She’s stolen 34 bases, which is a new USF single-season record and ranks seventh in the country. Overall, she’s tallied 51 hits in 130 at bats while also scoring 30 runs on the season.

Johns has hit .287 at the plate this season, adding a .358 on-base percentage and a .343 slugging percentage. She’s recorded four extra base hits, including two triples, and has stolen 20 bases on 21 attempts.
