TAMPA, Jan. 9, 2020 – Head coach Allison Jolly and the USF women’s sailing team are happy to announce the Bulls’ 2020 spring slate that’s set to begin Feb. 15-16.

“Our spring season has several challenging events, which will allow us to see how we stack up against the top-10 nationally ranked teams,” said Jolly. “Our long-term goal this season is to qualify for the Sperry Women’s National Championship Finals in May, which is comprised of the top 18 teams in the country.”

USF opens the 2020 calendar with the USF Women’s Intersectional Regatta, hosted in St. Petersburg Feb. 15-16. The Bulls will stay locally for the following meet with the Eckerd Intersectional in Feb.29-March 1. USF then heads to Maryland where it will compete in the St. Mary’s Spring Women’s March 14-15, followed by the Duplin Women’s Team Race at Tufts March 21-22. The Bulls will close March with the Dellenbaugh Women’s Intersectional Regatta at Brown, while also competing at the Tulane Women’s Intersectional Regatta Invite March 28-29.

USF will travel to Providence, R.I., to compete in the Women’s Team Race Nationals invite at Brown April 11-12, followed by the SAISA Women’s Championships in Charleston, S.C. April 18-19. Closing out the 2020 season will be the ICSA Women’s Nationals at Tulane May 26-29.

“We realize that we will be underdogs this season, due to the loss of one of our starting seniors,” said Jolly. “But our juniors and underclassmen are ready to step up this spring and show everyone what the Bulls are made of.”

Though USF lost All-American crew Darby Capellin to graduation along with Rachel Yannelli, it returns senior Delaney Brown (West Palm, Fla.). Juniors Marina Barzaghi (Saunderstown, R.I.), Katie Bornarth (Jensen Beach, Fla.) and Samantha Kappaz (Lithia, Fla.) have competed consistently since their freshman seasons. Sophomores Chloe Sweeting (Hope Town, Marsh Harbour, Bahamas), and Carolina Perez-Rovira (Coto Laurel, Puerto Rico) all saw significant action in their first seasons as well.
