USF MGOLF: Bulls 4th at Windon Memorial Classic

Luke Gifford leads the way with a strong third-place finish


TAMPA, Sept. 28, 2021 – The USF men’s golf team continued its positive fall season results with a fourth-place team finish among a strong field at the Windon Memorial Classic in Lake Forest, Ill., Tuesday.

After earning a second-place finish in their first action of the season at the Marquette Intercollegiate Tournament, USF posted rounds of 278, 285 and 282 for a final score of 7-under-par 845 on the par 71, 7,000-yard Lake Shore Country Club course. The Bulls battled a 14-yeam field and finished behind Kansas (-18), Northwestern (-11) and Notre Dame (-9) while besting No. 25 Georgia Tech (-5) and No. 21 North Florida (+5), Washington, Indiana, Michigan State and Ohio State among others.

Junior Luke Gifford (Boca Raton) paced the Bulls firing three rounds of 69 to finish tied for third at 6-under-par 207, just three strokes off winner Davis Cooper of Kansas who fired -9, 204.

Fellow Junior Albin Bergstrom (Ljunghusen, Sweden), who placed fourth at Marquette, fired rounds of 68, 72, and 70 for a 3-under-par score of 210 and a tie for 10th, marking his second straight Top 10 finish and third in his last four tournaments dating to last season.

Junior Ian Peng (Chang Hua, Taiwan) tied for 30th at +1, 214 while sophomores Run Youprayong (Bangkok, Thailand) and Sam Nicholson (Atlantic Beach) finish T42 and T47, respectively, with rounds of +3, 216 and +5, 218.

Competing individually at the Windon was freshman Shubi Jaglan (Delhi, India) who shot +7, 220 to finish tied for 63rd.

The Bulls return to action on Oct. 17 at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in Vero Beach, Fla.
