USF Looks for Fourth Straight Win When It Faces Tulsa on Saturday

The Bulls look for their seventh win their last eight matches when they face the Golden Hurricane 

TAMPA (OCT. 4, 2019) – USF hits the road for its lone match away from Corbett Stadium, during the first four contests in the month of October, as its travels to Oklahoma to face Tulsa on Saturday. First touch is slated for 8 p.m. ET. The Bulls look for their fourth consecutive win after a hard fought 1-0 victory against Florida Gulf Coast on Oct. 1. The Bulls are 6-2 on the year and 1-0 in the American.

SCOUTING TULSA

– Tulsa comes into Saturday’s match with USF, with a 3-5 record and an 0-1 mark in the American … The Golden Hurricane have dropped five of their last six matches after starting the season 2-0 … Tulsa’s three wins came against Gonzaga (1-0) on Aug. 30, Lipscomb (3-1) on Sept. 2 and Incarnate Word (4-0) on Sept. 20.

– Tulsa has scored 13 goals this season, including a team-best three goals by Harris Partain,

and one each by 10 other players.

– Bryson Reed has logged 270 minutes in goal, picked up 11 saves, earned one shutout and has a 1.00 goals-against average, while Brady Moody has played 380 minutes between the posts, has 14 saves, one clean sheet and a 1.66 GAA, and Lucas Cline has recorded 90 minutes in goal, picked up two saves and has a 5.0 GAA.

THE SERIES VS. THE GOLDEN HURRICANE

– USF and Tulsa have met nine times previously, with the Bulls holding a decisive 6-2-1 record in the all-time series … In addition, USF is a perfect 3-0 at Tulsa.

– The Green and Gold is 4-0-2 in their last six matches against Tulsa.

LAST TIME OUT

– Javain Brown, the reigning American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, came up big on the offensive side of the ball and recorded his second goal in as many outings, and his second consecutive game winner, as USF men’s soccer team handed Florida Gulf Coast a 1-0 loss on Oct. 1. 

– The Bulls had numerous opportunities in during the match, however it was Brown who gave the Green and Gold all the scoring that they would need … In a play eerily similar to his winner against UConn on Sept. 28, at Corbett Stadium, Brown took an offering from Freddy Gil off a corner kick and headed it past the Eagles’ goalkeeper Connor Gavigan … Against the Huskies it was Avionne Flanagan who served up the assist to Brown.

TRIO EARNS AAC WEEKLY HONORS

– USF had a trio of players earn American Athletic Conference (AAC) honors for the week ending Sept. 29 … Javain Brown was named Defensive Player of the Week and Harrison Devenish-Meares was named Goalkeeper of the Week … Emilio Ycaza was named to the AAC honor roll … It is the second time this season that each player earned their respective honor … The Bulls, 5-2, posted a 2-0 record last week with wins over North Florida (1-0) and against UConn (2-1) in the AAC opener.

BULLS CLOSE PRESEASON WITH 3-0 EXHIBITION RECORD

– USF closed out its 2019 preseason schedule with a 3-0 record, capped off by a 1-0 win over the University of Tampa in the 41st annual Rowdies Cup at Corbett Stadium on Aug. 24 … Freshman forward Victor Claudel netted the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 85’.

– The Bulls also defeated Eastern Florida State College (2-0) on Aug. 17 and Eckerd College (1-0) on Aug. 21 in their first two exhibition matches.

BILLHARDT & FLANAGAN EARN PRESEASON AAC HONORS

– USF men’s soccer standouts Avionne Flanagan and Adrian Billhardt and have been named to the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Preseason All-Conference Team.

– Flanagan finished 2018 with Second Team All-AAC honors … He played in all 17 matches for the Bulls and started in 16 … He scored two goals on the year off 15 shots … His goal against Florida Atlantic marked his first game-winner and was a crucial turning point for USF, which posted a 3-1-2 record in its next six matches.

– Billhardt earned preseason all-conference honors after recording four points on four assists in 2018 … A great technical player, he is creative and extremely dangerous one-on-one with a big left foot … Billhardt was also recognized during his freshman season, in 2017, when he was named First Team All-AAC and to the All-Rookie Team.

BULLS TABBED FOURTH IN AAC PRESEASON POLL

– USF was voted by the league’s head coaches to finish fourth in this year’s preseason American Athletic Conference Coaches poll … The Bulls trail only UCF, SMU and UConn … Temple, Memphis, Tulsa and Cincinnati round out the bottom four.
