USF And BYU Announce Second Two-Game Series to Be Played in 2022 & 2023

Bulls and Cougars set to complete first two-game series in 2021, add home-and-home dates in 2022 and 2023 seasons.

USF’s non-conference schedule now full through the 2027 season.

TAMPA, FEB. 16 , 2021 – USF and BYU, set to complete a two-game football series in the 2021 season, have announced an additional two-game series that will see the programs meet on the gridiron in three straight seasons and four times in the span of five years with additional dates in Tampa and Provo, Utah.

USF and second-year head coach Jeff Scott are set to head to Provo, Utah next season for a Sept. 24 game in LaVell Edwards Stadium (63,470) that will mark the Bulls’ final non-conference game of the 2021 season. The newest two-game series will see BYU return to Tampa on Sat., Sept. 3, 2022 and the Bulls head back to Utah on Sat., Oct. 28, 2023.

The teams met for the first time in 2019 with USF posting a 27-23 homecoming victory in Raymond James Stadium in the first-ever meeting between the programs.

BYU completed an 11-1 campaign in 2020 with a 49-23 rout of UCF in the Boca Raton Bowl, the Cougars’ first-ever victory in the state of Florida. BYU finished No. 11 in the final AP Poll and No. 16 in the final College Football Playoff Poll of 2020.

The addition of the 2022 and 2023 dates completes the Bulls’ non-conference schedules in those seasons. In 2022, USF will play non-conference games vs. BYU (Sept. 3), vs. Howard (Sept. 10), at Florida (Sept. 17) and at Louisville (Sept. 24). In the 2023 season, USF will open at Western Kentucky (Sept. 2) before games vs. Florida A&M (Sept. 9), vs. Alabama (Sept. 16) and at BYU (Oct. 28).

USF’s non-conference schedules are now full for the next seven campaigns through the 2027 season. The Bulls’ future opponents in the next eight seasons, through 2028, include Alabama (3 games), Boise State (2 games), BYU (3 games), Florida (3 games), Louisville (3 games), Miami (3 games) and North Carolina State (2 games).

USF will open the 2021 campaign with a Thursday night, primetime contest at North Carolina State on Sept. 2 before returning to Tampa to face Florida (Sept. 11) and Florida A&M (Sept. 18) in Raymond James Stadium and then a final non-conference game at BYU (Sept. 24).

The USF football program first took the field in 1997 and will celebrate its 25th season (22nd at the FBS level) in 2021. The Bulls have posted 15 winning seasons, earned 14 All-America selections and 29 first-team all-conference selections, and have seen 30 players selected in the NFL Draft. USF has made 10 bowl games appearances (going 6-4 in those games) and posted a program record six straight appearances from 2005-2010.
