USF Baseball: Bulls fall in shootout with Northeastern, 13-8

Eric Snow’s first collegiate home run went for a grand slam in Saturday’s setback.

TAMPA (March 4, 2023) – The University of South Florida Bulls (3-8) faced a six-run deficit on two occasions Saturday afternoon and battled back to make it a two-run game in the four inning, only to see the Northeastern Huskies (7-1) win their second straight at USF Baseball Stadium, 13-8.

Freshman Eric Snow (Forsyth, Ga.) recorded his first collegiate home run in the loss for South Florida, a grand slam in the fourth inning to cut the Northeastern lead to 8-6 at the time. Snow finished the day 3-for-4 with a walk and a career-high six RBI.

Northeastern led 6-0 after the top of the second inning before the Bulls got on the board in the bottom half of the frame. Jackson Mayo (St. Johns) and Snow tallied back-to-back two-out doubles to drive in runs and cut the USF deficit to 6-2.

The Huskies went up by six runs once again in the top of the fourth, 8-2, ahead of Snow’s slam in the bottom of the fourth.

Northeastern scored in all but three innings on Saturday and reached double digits on the scoreboard for the second straight game in Tampa.

John Montes (Toa Alto, Puerto Rico) finished the game 2-for-2 with a walk, HBP, RBI and a pair of runs scored. Mayo went 3-for-5 for his third multi-hit game of the season.
