USF Baseball: Brutcher named Freshman All-American

Perfect Game USA has tabbed USF’s Drew Brutcher a Freshman All-American.

TAMPA (June 21, 2021) – Perfect Game USA/Rawlings Sports has named the University of South Florida’s Drew Brutcher (Lakeland) a 2021 Freshman All-American, the organization announced on Monday.

Brutcher becomes the 18th Freshman All-American in program history, joining Carmine Lane (Lake Placid) who earned the accolade from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper earlier this month. It marks just the third time in program history a pair of teammates have been named Freshman All-Americans in the same season, and first since 2009.

Brutcher, a true freshman, was tabbed a Second Team Freshman All-American by Perfect Game despite missing nearly half the season.

The left-handed hitter batted .294 with six doubles, eight home runs and 17 RBI in his first collegiate season. Brutcher also tallied 23 walks, 25 runs scored and six stolen bases over 32 games in 2021.

Brutcher was sidelined for seven weeks due to injury before returning to make a pair of pinch-hit appearances in the Gainesville Regional championship. In the Super Regional, Brutcher connected on a game-tying home run with two outs in the ninth inning against the Texas Longhorns.

South Florida made its 14th NCAA Regional appearance in 2021 after winning the American Athletic Conference Tournament Championship. The Bulls went on to win the Gainesville Regional and appear in the program’s first-ever NCAA Super Regional. USF became just the seventh regional No. 4 seed to ever advance to a Super Regional.
