USF Baseball: Brutcher, Jasiak sweep AAC baseball weekly honors

Drew Brutcher was named the Player of the Week and Jack Jasiak the Pitcher of the Week.

IRVING, Texas (March 8, 2021) – The University of South Florida baseball team has had plenty of individual successes over the past two weeks during the its seven-game winning streak, and on Monday, the American Athletic Conference (AAC) announced a pair of Bulls as recipients of the league’s weekly honors. Drew Brutcher (Lakeland) was named the AAC Player of the Week and Jack Jasiak (Spring Hill) was named the Pitcher of the Week.

Brutcher batted .333 (5-15) with three home runs, five RBI, five runs scored, one walk and a stolen base over three games last week. The true freshman homered in three consecutive games, including a walk-off in the 12th inning on Sunday to complete a sweep over previously undefeated Stetson.

Brutcher is hitting .415 (17-41) with three doubles, five home runs and nine RBI this season. He leads USF in runs (14), walks (9), total bases (35), on base percentage (.529) and slugging (.854). Brutcher ranks 16th national in total bases and 43rd in slugging.

Jasiak won his second straight start on the mound last Friday while dealing Stetson its first loss of the season. The right-hander turned in his third consecutive quality start, and recorded season highs in strikeouts (10) and innings pitched (7.2) in the outing.

Jasiak is 2-0 on the year with a 1.29 ERA. The redshirt freshman ranks second in the country in strikeout-to-walk ration (24.00) and 30th in total strikeouts (24).

The USF Bulls (7-3) will put their win streak on the line Tuesday against Florida State (4-5). First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Tallahassee.

The USF Baseball program played its first season in 1966 and is entering its 56th season in 2021. The Bulls have won 1,628 games entering the 2021 season and made 13 NCAA Tournament appearances, including three since 2015. The Bulls have won four conference tournament titles (3 Sun Belt and 1 Metro) and had 126 all-conference selections. USF baseball players have been recognized with All-America honors 12 times, most recently with third baseman David Villar in 2018. Four players were selected in the 2018 MLB Draft, including the program’s fourth first round selection in pitcher Shane McClanahan, who appeared in the 2020 World Series with the Tampa Bay Rays. The Bulls saw continued success in head coach Billy Mohl’s first season in 2018, reaching 36 wins, advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament for the first time since 2012, and making the program’s latest NCAA Tournament appearance while also achieving a ranking in multiple polls for the final two months of the season.
