LAKE NONA, Fla. – Florida women’s tennis is set to meet in-state rival, Florida State, for the second time this season when they travel to the United States Tennis Association’s National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla., for College Matchday at 5 p.m.
Saturday will mark the 14th time in program history that the Gators and Seminoles have met twice in the same season, lasting meeting multiple times during the 2018 campaign. It will also be the first time in the series that the squads have met multiple times within a week.
The Gators enter College MatchDay coming off an impressive performance that saw the Orange & Blue, ranked No. 13 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association, took down No. 17 Old Dominion on Thursday evening. After claiming the doubles point, the Gators found themselves in a battle.
Freshman Alicia Dudeney picked up her first victory at the two singles slot, taking down No. 116 Tatsiana Sasnouskaya in straight sets: 6-3, 6-3, to give UF a 2-1 advantage. Returning to singles action, Carly Briggs took care of business shortly after Dudeney, defeating Sofia Johnson: 6-1, 6-4. The Monarchs would close the gap, making it 3-2 before McCartney Kessler came up big for the Gators, defeating No. 71 Yuliia Starodubtseva: 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to secure the UF victory.
With the victory, Florida women’s tennis is now 5-0 for the first time since the 2016-17 season, also the last time they won the NCAA team title. Old Dominion’s ranking of No. 17 was also the highest-ranked win for the Gators since defeating No. 10 Ole Miss, 4-2, on April 18, 2019.
Earlier this season, Florida swept the Seminoles at the ITA Kickoff regional in Tallahassee, Fla., to punch their ticket to the Indoor National Championships for the first time since 2018.
College MatchDay is an event put on by the USTA that allows fans to experience some of the top collegiate tennis teams in the country. The free event features a lot of fan activities, such as a kids’ clinic, live music, specialty food and drinks, games and giveaways, all starting at 4 p.m. College MatchDay is officially a sell out as all 2,000 tickets have been reserved. However, there are a limited number of walk-up tickets available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Parking is free and is first-come, first-serve in the main Welcome Center parking lot. Overflow parking is located in the USPTA and USTA Florida lots next door.
Men’s doubles will be played on Courts 7, 8 and 9, while men’s singles matches will take place on Courts 7-12.
