UF WBK: Farrell Named to SEC Community Service Team

Women’s basketball sophomore Brynn Farrell has found several ways to give back to the Gainesville community.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida women’s basketball sophomore Brynn Farrell has been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league announced on Wednesday morning.

This marks the 24th year for the SEC Community Service Team for women’s basketball as well as for men’s basketball. All league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men’s and women’s sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began this concept with a football Community Service Team in 1994.

Farrell has found multiple ways to make a difference in her community while at Florida. The Ortley Beach, N.J., native has volunteered with St. Augustine Church in her free time, helping the local homeless population by handing out supply bags.

In addition to assisting at St. Augustine Church, the sophomore guard has also volunteered at Shands Children’s Hospital, which is home to the UF Health Shands Pediatric E.R. – the community’s first emergency department devoted to caring for children who are acutely ill or injured, by dropping off greeting cards and recording a special message for the children.

On campus, Farrell is involved in the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, or SAAC. SAAC members serve as student-athlete liaisons that monitor and discuss happenings on campuses, within conference and at the national level.

Farrell and the Gators conclude the road portion of the 2021-22 season on Thursday evening, Feb. 24, when they travel to Nashville, Tenn., for a 6:30 p.m. ET matchup with the Vanderbilt Commodores.
