UF VB | Hall Tabbed to SEC Community Service Team

Junior outside hitter earns honor for her work in the Gainesville community

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Junior outside hitter Thayer Hall was named to the 2020-21 SEC Volleyball Community Service Team, as the league announced Wednesday.

The Spartanburg, S.C. native has put in numerous hours with different organizations in the Gainesville community over her career as a Gator.

She participated in visits to UF Shands, where members of different Florida athletic teams visit with children that are patients in the hospital. Hall also worked at the Hidden Oak Fun Run, which took place at a local elementary school. There she helped pass out water, count laps for students and motivated them to finish strong.

Hall volunteered in the Climb for Cancer event put on by Florida. This event has taken place for the last 15 years at UF and the camp allows the participants to just be children playing, leaving behind the medicine and cancer treatments for a morning of fun.

One of the biggest events Hall was involved in was helping to run the Night to Shine Gainesville, which was a one-night program for people with special needs. She welcomed each of the 300 attendees as they walked down the red carpet on their special night. Hall accompanied about a dozen attendees down the red carpet, helping to make them feel like celebrities. After the red carpet, Hall took pictures and joined the dance party at the prom.

Finally, Hall met with SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, where she gave feedback about upcoming legislation and the SEC Student-Athlete experience.

Hall and the Gators are set for NCAA Tournament play, with the squad taking on the winner of Creighton/Morehead State on Thursday, April 15 at 3:30 p.m. at the CHI Health Arena in Omaha, Neb.
