This marks the third consecutive week a Gator has received an SEC weekly award as Valby joins Alida van Daalen and Sean Dixon-Bodie as the other 2024 recipients.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After being named the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Women’s National Athlete of the Week yesterday, Parker Valby adds another award to her collection as she has been named the SEC Women’s Runner of the Week as announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Over the weekend, Valby reset the 10,000m NCAA record as she crossed the finish line at the Bryan Clay Invitational 10,000 Invite in 30:50.43, 28 seconds faster than the previous record which had stood for 14 years before Valby’s performance on Thursday. Her time ranks No. 11 on the American all-time list and is No. 5 in the world in 2024. Additionally, Valby set the Florida program record in the event and holds the top time in the NCAA in 2024.
The Tampa, Florida native is the third Gator to be named an SEC Athlete of the Week. A week ago, Alida van Daalen was named SEC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week and a week prior to that Sean Dixon-Bodie was named SEC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Three Gators took home SEC Awards during the indoor season as well. Robert Gregory was titled SEC Men’s Runner of the Week, Parvej Khan was named SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week and Flomena Asekol was crowned SEC Women’s Runner of the Week during the indoor campaign.
