Two Gators Capture SEC Weekly Honors
Bella Sims named Freshman of the Week and Isabel Ivey earns Swimmer of the Week.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two Gators from the Women’s Swimming and Diving Team collected a pair of SEC weekly honors, the Conference announced Tuesday.
Isabel Ivey was awarded Women’s Swimmer of the Week, while Bella Sims earned Freshman of the Week. This marks the sixth weekly honor for Sims, third for Ivey. The Gators have accumulated a total of 25 SEC Weekly Awards during the 2023-24 season, which tallies for the most in the conference.
The Gainesville native set a new school record in the 200-yard freestyle at last week’s Florida Invitational. She finished in first after recording an NCAA B-cut 1:43.03 time to surpass a 16-year old record (1:43.10) that was set in 2008 and sits as the fastest women’s 200 free time in the SEC. Ivey has scratched her name in the Top-10 Times in Gator History on nine different occasions in just her one season at Florida.
Sims broke a 15-year record that was set in 2009 in the 100 Yard Backstroke at Florida’s Invitational (50.46). The freshman clocked an NCAA A-cut 50.44 time, good for first place and the fastest women’s 100 back time in the league. She was also the leadoff leg in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay and recorded a 1:43.04 split, which ranks second in program history behind her teammate Isabel Ivey. The Henderson, Nevada native has set 11, Top-10 Times in her first collegiate season.
The Gators head to Auburn, Alabama for SEC Championships from Feb. 20-24. The men’s team is looking for its 12th-straight SEC title, while the women go for back-to-back SEC Champions.
