UF SB: No. 11 Gators Set for Rematch with No. 12 Seminoles

Florida heads to Tallahassee to take on Florida State at 7 p.m. Wednesday on ACC Network.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The 11th-ranked Florida softball team sets its sights on a rematch with No. 12 Florida State in a solo midweek contest at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 31, at JoAnne Graf Field. The game is set to air on ACC Network.

The Gators (39-12) enter the week after the program claimed its sixth Southeastern Conference series of the season in the matchup at Georgia. The Orange & Blue took two of the three contests and ended the series with a seven-run top of the seventh to cap a comeback victory in the series finale.

Junior Reagan Walsh was rewarded for her efforts over last week’s series of games as she was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week. Walsh batted .500 (6-for-12) with four RBI and a pair of home runs over the four-game span to earn the first SEC weekly accolade of her career. Overall, Florida has produced four different SEC Players of the Week this season, which is a first for the program, and the total amount of players of the week rank as the second most awarded in a season.

UF has found just as much success on the road as it has at home this year. The program holds a 14-5 road record, which includes seven Top 25 victories over the likes of Alabama, Mississippi State, Missouri and Georgia.

Over the 19 total road games this year, Florida is hitting .308 as a team with Walsh (.431 BA), Skylar Wallace (.390 BA), Korbe Otis (.389 BA), Jocelyn Erickson (.389 BA) and Ava Brown (.367 BA) leading the way individually. One standout stat is that Brown, who has a total of 12 home runs on the season, has hit 11 of those home runs on the road.

The Seminoles (40-10) enter the week after a series sweep of ACC foe North Carolina last weekend. FSU outscored the Tar Heels 26-7 over the series with a pair of six-inning run-rule victories. UNC fought in the series finale and held the Seminoles to just two runs on just four hits in the effort, but fell 2-1 despite recording 10 hits off FSU’s pitching staff.

Florida State is led offensively by freshman Jaysoni Beachum (.447 BA) and Michaela Edenfield (.404 BA) who sport .400-plus batting averages, while six additional batters in the lineup are above the .300 mark.

Concluding tomorrow’s in-state midweek rivalry game, Florida will finish the regular season at home against SEC foe Texas A&M at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium this upcoming Friday through Sunday.
