UF LAX | Four Gators Earn AAC Weekly Honors

After defeating Louisville to open the 2021 season, Florida picked up four AAC accolades

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After defeating the Louisville Cardinals to start the 2021 season, the Gators picked up four American Athletic Conference awards, as the league announced Monday.

Cara Trombetta was named Defender of the Week, while Sarah Reznick was tabbed as Freshman of the Week. Grace Haus and Shannon Kavanagh each earned a spot on the AAC Honor Roll.

Trombetta was named Defender of the Week after anchoring a Florida defense which held the Cardinals to just seven goals. The fifth-year senior recorded a team-high four groundballs and two caused turnovers in the victory.

Reznick earned Freshman of the Week honors after recording 11 saves on a .611 save percentage during her 59:00 in the cage. Along with her double-digit save performance, Reznick also tallied one groundball.

Kavanagh was named to the Honor Roll after recording four points in the game on three goals and an assist. Her second goal of the day pushed her to 200 career points, making her just the ninth Gator to achieve that mark. The senior also recorded six draw controls and one groundball in the game.

Haus also earned a spot on the honor roll after recording two goals and two assists in the season opener. The two goals from Haus pushed her to 92 in her career – just eight off from becoming the 13th Gator to hit 100 career goals.

The Gators are back in action on Friday as the team faces off against No. 1 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m. on the ACC Network Extra.
