GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida right-handed pitcher Brandon Sproat<https://floridagators.com/sports/baseball/roster/brandon-sproat/15508> earned his second SEC Pitcher of the Week honor on Monday after hurling a complete-game gem vs. Missouri on April 28.
Collecting honors as Co-Pitcher of the Week alongside Tennessee’s Drew Beam, Sproat’s second weekly SEC honor of the season raises Florida’s overall total to six. The Gators have won three SEC Pitcher of the Week honors this season between Sproat and right-hander Hurston Waldrep<https://floridagators.com/sports/baseball/roster/hurston-waldrep/15517>.
In his April 28 start in the series opener against Missouri, Sproat went the distance as the Gators posted an 11-1 win over the Tigers in seven innings. The Pace, Fla. native was locked in from the get-go, retiring the first six batters of the game in order and allowing just two hits and one walk on the night.
Sproat finished with seven dominant innings of one-run ball, striking out seven Tigers in the process. The outing marked his second complete game of the season, as he improved to 6-2 on the season and a ridiculous 11-2 across his last 17 starts dating back to last year.
Following the performance, Sproat owns a 4.67 ERA in 61 2/3 innings with 84 strikeouts – translating to 12.3 per nine innings.
Sproat and the Gators return to action against Florida State in Jacksonville on Tuesday at 121 Financial Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
