Miami Marlins – Fast Pace, More Action, and the Hottest Hitter in Baseball

Through the end of the first month of the season, the Marlins are displaying a new brand of baseball, with more action and more entertainment!

NEW RULES:

  • With the implementation of the pitch clock, throughout Major League Baseball, games are nearly a half hour shorter than last year! Fans are able to head straight to the ballpark after work, catch a game and get the kids home in time for school the next day, or head out to dinner with friends!
  • With the larger bases in play, through their first 29 games, the Marlins have stolen nearly twice as many bases (27 in 2023) as they did through the same time frame in 2022 (16).
  • The Marlins’ 15 wins in the month of April marked the most wins in April since the team became the Miami Marlins and tied the second-best mark in franchise history for the month (also 1997, 2004, and 2008) behind the record of 16 wins in April 2011.
  • Should they win Tuesday vs. Atlanta – would mark their longest winning streak of the season and put the club 4 games over .500. Would mark their best winning percentage on May 3 since the team became the Miami Marlins.
  • Miami is now 10-0 in one-run games to start the season, the most consecutive wins in games decided by one run since the Dodgers started 10-0 in such games in 2004. The record for consecutive wins in one-run games to start the season is 11-0 set by the 1972 New York Mets. (credit: Elias Sports Bureau).
    • Miami played 64 games decided by one run in 2022, the most such games in the Majors last season, going 24-40. Miami’s 40 one-run losses were the most in a season in club history, the most since the 1975 Astros (41), and just three shy of the single-season record for one-run losses during the Live Ball Era (since 1920) held by the 1968 White Sox (44).
  • The Marlins have won 6 of 9 series overall this season. Have won 9 of their last 11 home games.
  • Attendance is once again on the rise at loanDepot park! Through the first 16 home games, attendance has risen 7% when compared to last season’s first 16 home games – this on the heels of a 12% increase last season (one of the largest in MLB in 2022).

Luis Arraez is the hottest hitter in Baseball.

AN APRIL TO REMEMBER
Marlins 2B Luis Arraez has been baseball’s best hitter to start the 2023 season:
Recorded a .439 (36×82) batting average in the month of April, setting a club record for the highest average in the month of April. Marked the highest average for any Major Leaguer in April – more than 50 points higher than anyone else!
Became the first player to have a batting average of .435 or better and an OBP of .500 or better at the end of April since Barry Bonds (.472 AVG and .696 OBP) in 1994 (min: 50 AB) – credit Elias Sports Bureau.
Has struck out just 5 times in 102 PA (.049 K/PA) this season, the lowest mark in the Majors among qualified batters. Has swung and missed just 12 times in 2023!
On April 11 in Philadelphia, Arraez recorded his first career cycle and the first cycle in Marlins franchise history (in the organization’s 4,700th game)!
