UAB Women’s Soccer Takes Sole Command of First Place After 0-0 Draw at North Texas

DENTON, Texas – UAB (7-2-3, 4-0-1 C-USA) is all alone in first place in Conference USA after a scoreless draw at North Texas on Sunday afternoon. The Blazers now have 13 points, one more than Rice who plays a nonconference match at Texas A&M later tonight.

Keeper Eve Beyer made five saves to record her fourth straight shutout.

UAB had the first opportunity to score in the match, but Jessica Wheeler’s shot was stopped by Dani Jacobson in the 21st minute. UNT’s only first half chance was when Madi Drenowatz’s shot was stopped by an outstretched Beyer in the 25th minute.

Beyer came up with a game-saver with two seconds remaining on the match when she stopped Taylor Tufts inside the box.

Although the Mean Green outshot the Blazers 19-4, only five of those shots were on target. UAB had eight corner kicks to UNT’s three.

The next home match is against UTSA (6-2-3, 1-1-2 C-USA) on Oct. 9 at noon.

NOTES

  • The 4-0-1 league start for UAB is the best in program history
  • Beyer recorded her 12th career shutout
  • The six match win steak is the longest since 1998
  • Zuniga recorded her third game-winner of the season, most in C-USA
  • Beyer’s GAA drops to 0.53 and her save percentage increases to .857 – both league bests
