UAB Women’s Soccer Hosts UTSA on Sunday

BIRMINGHAM –The UAB women’s soccer team continues Conference USA play on Sunday when it hosts UTSA at BBVA Field. Kickoff is now scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

UAB LATELY
The Blazers (6-3-1, 1-1-0 C-USA) have had only one setback in their last seven matches. That came last week at UTEP, 2-1. Prior to that, UAB was 5-0-1 since Feb. 7.  

UAB is 12th in the NCAA and first in Conference USA with 27 goals scored. They are 17th in the nation and first in Conference USA in points per game with 7.4. The Blazers’ 20 assists are 16th in the NCAA and first in the league.

ABOUT UTSA
The Roadrunners (2-5-1, 0-3-0 C-USA) are coming off a 3-1 loss at Southern Miss on March 12. UTSA’s last victory was March 7 against Houston Baptist.

UTSA keeper Jil Schneider has recorded a pair of clean sheets this season and leads C-USA with 619 minutes played.

THE SERIES VS. UTSA
This will be the fourth matchup between the teams. The first meeting was a 5-0 UAB victory at West Campus Field in 2014. Two seasons later, UTSA won 2-1 at BBVA Field. In the first meeting in San Antonio, the Blazers were 3-1 winners in 2017.

LEX IN EFFECT
Lexxe Lipsey leads C-USA with seven goals and 15 points. She ranks 13rd and 23rd in the NCAA in those categories, respectively. 

FROM K TO Z
Laura Zemberyova leads the league and ranks 15th in the NCAA with five assists. Zemberyova and Stella Kiss each have 11 points, ranking tied for fourth in Conference USA.

UP NEXT 
UAB will travel to Denton, Texas to face West division leader North Texas. The Mean Green (5-1-0, 2-0-0 C-USA) are on the road facing Southern Miss on Sunday. The next and final home game is April 2 versus Rice.

BBVA Field will accommodate fans with social distancing measures in place.

Fans will be asked to practice social distancing and sit in available seats. Masks are required at all times per state and county ordinance.
