UAB Drops 4-0 Decision to FIU

MIAMI –FIU scored a pair of goals in the first five minutes of the match and did not look back in its 4-0 victory over UAB on Saturday afternoon. 

The Blazers fall to 2-9-1 overall, 0-2-1 in Conference USA play while FIU improves to 3-2-0, 2-1-0 C-USA.   
  

UAB started the match with the first shot attempt from Owen Travis’ header that was saved by FIU’s goalkeeper and Johan Peñaranda. The Panthers came out with a very fast style of play resulting in a goal in the fourth minute by Alessandro Campoy. FIU quickly found the back of the net again with a goal by Errol Spence in the fifth minute. 

The Blazers had two opportunities to score after FIU’s goals. Brooks Rice attempted a shot from an Aodhán O’Hara crosser in the sixth minute but was off target. Sumner Richardson had a shot on goal in the 11thminute, but it was saved by Peñaranda. 

In the 40thminute, UAB goalkeeper Caelan Whitehead was called for a foul in the penalty box, leading to a FIU penalty kick. Campoy’s attempt was successful, giving the Panthers a 3-0 lead  

Although FIU scored another goal in the 53rdminute, the Blazers’ defense managed to slow the Panthers down in the second half, only allowing three shots on goal the rest of the match.  

UAB will be back at BBVA Field for a Conference USA match with No. 16 Kentucky on March 27 at 2 p.m.
