UAB WBB Visits Middle Tennessee on Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women’s basketball team hits the road to face Middle Tennessee on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff at the Murphy Center is scheduled for 5 p.m.

UAB LATELY
UAB (12-6, 5-2 C-USA) has won two straight and four of its last five. The Blazers are coming off a home sweep of WKU (86-70) on Jan. 27 and Marshall (77-65) on Jan. 29.

MIDDLE TENNESSEE LATELY
Middle Tennessee (15-4, 7-2 C-USA) is a perfect 8-0 at home and has won its last three games. MT is coming off a pair of home wins against Marshall (80-41) on Jan. 27 and WKU (71-64) on Jan. 29. Kseniya Malashka (Player of the Week) and Anastasiia Boldyreva (Freshman of the Week) swept the C-USA weekly awards and honors which were announced on Jan. 31.

UAB AND MIDDLE TENNESSEE HISTORY          
The series began when the two teams met in the Days Inn Southern Invitational in Atlanta in 1990. That was the first of six nonconference games the teams played before Middle Tennessee joined Conference USA in 2013-14. The Blazers won four of those six. In C-USA play, Middle leads 11-5 and 2-0 in the C-USA Championship. Overall, the Blue Raiders hold the series lead 15-9.

LAST TIME AGAINST MIDDLE TENNESSEE
Zakyia Weathersby had 10 points and 12 rebounds and Margaret Whitley scored a team-high 12 points, but Middle Tennessee swept the season series after a 95-68 loss on Jan. 30, 2021.

COMMON OPPONENTS
UAB and Middle Tennessee have 11 common opponents this season with Mercer being the only nonconference foe on their schedules.

TOP OF THE CHARTS         
Weathersby is fifth in the NCAA with 14 double-doubles, eighth with 11.8 rebounds per game and fifth with 4.6 offensive rebounds per game. She ranks first in Conference USA shooting percentage (56.3%), rebounds per game (11.8) and total rebounds (212) She’s second in the league in blocks per game (1.7) in blocks (32) and is third in field goals made (108).

GREAT 28     
Both Weathersby (Chicago State/Chattanooga) and Caitlynn Daniels (Mississippi Valley State) each have a 28-point game under their belts this year.

WORLD CLASS KLACZEK
Emily Klaczek set a career-high with 26 points in UAB’s 86-70 win over WKU on Jan. 27. She scored 16 points in the 2nd quarter, going 5-for-5 from the field, 4-of-4 from 3-point range and a pair of foul shots.

EIGHT IS ENOUGH  
In Daniels career day against MVSU, she drained eight 3-pointers. This is the most in C-USA this season and tied for the 10th most in the NCAA this season.
