UAB WBB Triumphs Over UTEP in Overtime 76-74

EL PASO – Emily Klaczek’s 3-pointer with eight seconds left in regulation send the game into overtime and UAB outscored UTEP 7-5 in the extra period in its 76-74 victory in the Conference USA opener on Thursday night.

Lindsey Dullard hit 3-pointer followed by a layup to give UAB an eight-point lead at 19-11 with under a minute left in the 1st quarter. UTEP would tie the score at 23-23 midway through the 2nd quarter after knocking down a pair of 3-pointers sandwiched between a layup. Klaczek would give the Blazers the lead on the next possession and take a 34-29 advantage into halftime.

The Blazers would hold the lead the entire 3rd quarter, capped by a Maria Roters layup that made the score 49-46.

Weathersby’s layup put UAB ahead 66-62 with 1:54 left in the 4th quarter. However, the Miners would score the game’s next seven points to take a 69-66 lead with 14 seconds left. The next possession was Klaczek’s game-tying shot.

The Miners missed on their ensuing trip up the floor, with Weathersby grabbing the rebound. Destinee McGhee was fouled and made the back end of her foul shots with 10 seconds remaining.
