UAB WBB Returns to Bartow to Host Chattanooga

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women’s basketball team returns home when they host Chattanooga on Monday evening. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
 
UAB LATELY
UAB (3-2) is coming off an 0-2 west coast trip where they fell to San Diego State (55-51) and Pepperdine (64-50). Zakyia Weathersby is first in Conference USA with 11.2 rebounds per game, 2.6 blocks per game and 5.8 offensive rebounds per game.
 
CHATTANOOGA LATELY
Chattanooga (1-5) is coming off a 77-66 loss against Georgia State on Nov. 27. Abbey Cornelius averages a double-double of 14.5 ppg and 10.0 rpg for UTC.  
 
UAB AND CHATTANOOGA HISTORY        
The series dates back to 1980 when the then Lady Blazers defeated the former Lady Moccasins 75-73 in Birmingham. In all, the series has been played in four different cities (Atlanta, Birmingham, Chattanooga and Starkville) and at seven different venues (Bartow Arena, Bell Gymnasium, UC Gymnasium, Maclellan Gymnasium, McKenzie Arena, GSU Sports Arena, Humphrey Coliseum). UTC leads the series 20-16. Each team has won nine games in Birmingham.
 
LAST TIME AGAINST CHATTANOOGA     
Margaret Whitley scored a then career-high 34 points in UAB’s 78-58 victory at Chattanooga on Dec. 6, 2020. The win also moved head coach Randy Norton into second place in program history with 139 victories.
 
UAB VS. SOCON         
UAB is 35-29 all-time against teams currently in the Southern Conference. Sixteen of those wins have come against Chattanooga.
 
LUCKY 13      
Zakyia Weathersby is one of 13 players in Division I that averages at least 15.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg this season.
 
GREAT 28      
Both Weathersby (Chicago State) and Caitlynn Daniels (Mississippi Valley State) each have a 28-point game under their belts this year. This is tied for the second-best single game total in C-USA this season behind Southern Miss’ Dominque Davis who had 29 against Samford.
 
EIGHT IS ENOUGH   
In Daniels career day against MVSU, she drained eight 3-pointers. This is the most in C-USA this season and tied for the fifth most in the NCAA this season.

UAB BASKETBALL AT BARTOW ARENA

BLAZER SPORTSLINE
David Crane will host Blazer Sportsline every Tuesday beginning Dec. 28. The show takes place live from Iron City Grill in downtown Birmingham and features men’s basketball head coach Andy Kennedy and women’s basketball head coach Randy Norton.

The nine-episode show, airs from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Blazer Sportsline can be heard on 100.5 ESPN JOX 2 and fans will be encouraged to tweet questions to @UABLearfield.
